JimDuke on Squidoo
Welcome to Jim's Squidoo page-I'm from the Lonestar State, living in the beautiful hill country and loving life here. I have such a varied interest in hobbies, science, photography etc-in fact besides flying an Airbus 320 for United Airlines, I operate the photography business J Thomas Duke Photography. I specialize in portraits and weddings-but I love landscape, architecture and astrophotography....

- Hey - can you answer an airplane question to settle a bet? The MD-80 is (almost) the only type you don't see retrofitted with winglets. Is that an engineering issue (i.e., winglets are ineffective on a t-tail) or an economics issue (i.e., because they're being retired).
A beer hangs upon your answer...
Thanks!

- Hi LabKitty-Do I get a beer too? I believe there are 2 issues with the MD80-the age of the aircraft and that McDDonald Douglass doesn't exist anymore-there's been no engineering study to see what the fuel savings would be and the DC-9/MD 80's are being phased out of service slowly.
