I am a 53 year old mother of six (3 biological - 3 adopted aka heart babies) Until I broke my ankle, I was an educator and energy advisor for home improvement company. I have always been interested in alternative medicine and living. I have a large garden and still home can, dehydrate and freeze as much organic food from my garden as possible...but maybe not this year.

Thank-you so much for your comment! I am slowly re-joining my life. This afternoon I acted as a labour coach (Doula) and helped bring a 10 lb baby boy into the world...in an aircast! I am working a bit at my day job as well but the constant stiffness in my ankle is a major hinderance. I was due to have the long screw removed on Nov. 16th but that has been pushed to Nov. 30th. I have been walking with only an aircast or splint (no crutches etc.) for a couple of weeks now. The splint is a pain because it does not fit into any of my shoes and buying one size 8 and one size nine shoe proves impossible and brings about the strangest looks at the shoe store! I am more comfortable and far less paranoid about re-injuring myself in the aircast. It does wreak havoc on my body though and I expect my chiropractor and massage therapist will reap the benefits of this one day soon when I can increase the size of my bank account.
Sounds like your fracture was worse than mine as I "only" dislocated my Talus. Sounds like you actually broke yours-OUCH! I was convinced I would never get to where I am now; so take heart - it will improve , albeit slowly. It is life altering though and I have no idea when the stiffness will disappear. Find a good physiotherapist and do the exercises.
There are still many things I simply cannot do...like carry a laundry basket to the laundry room...no great loss hahaha!
Take care and write again...it is good for the soul!

    Hi kate:
    How are you?
I'm into my 11 th week from surgery getting 1 plate plus 11 screws. Broke my tibia fibula and ankle the 21st of august 2011. I'm still using a boot, after being first 30 days with the boot no weight bearing, then 25 days with a cast ( 15 no weight bearing and 10 to try bearing up to 30 kgms, but could only do 15 kgms) and then the boot again trying to work bearing more weight day after day until I could walk with the boot without the aid of the walker or crutches. So by today I'm walking with the boot cast with no aid hoping that this wednesday's dr appointment he will allow me to drive.
Would like to know about yourself. I suppose your into your life again since you stopped writting.
God bless you and your family.
    Loved the way you wrote.
