I am happy to have an opportunity to share a little bit of my life and ideas with you.
My pen name Andrphilip is a combination of the names of two of Jesus' disciples Andrew the brother of Simon Peter and Philip the Evangelist who is different than Philip the Apostle. Andrew is seen as a character who introduced others to Jesus. He introduced his brother to Jesus, the boy with five loaves and two fishes, and Philip the Apostle had Andrew introduce some foreign travelers to Jesus. Philip the Evangelist is found in the early chapters of Acts waiting on widows and telling many others about Jesus. The intention of my life is to be friendly like Andrew so that I can help others know Jesus like Philip. It is also my intention to put forth the magnificant principles of God's Kingdom that lead to an effective and productive life for all who practice them whether they believe in Jesus or not.
Although my faith is firm, I am not afraid to entertain and discuss other ideas. In fact I enjoy a hearty debate on just about any subject including sports, politics, religion, philiosophy, philosophy of science and others.
I grew up in a white suburban neighborhood that had very few minorities (mostly hispanic if any, very few black or African-American). My father is half-Irish and half-hispanic; my mother white to the bone (but not prejudice by any means). I am married to my one and only wife of 22 years and the Lord has blessed us with five wonderful children. I just finished an MBA in Global Management but unfortunately am in between jobs. For part-time work, I administer the GED exam to inmates in two local prisons and I also have a small office furniture company on the side.
From 1980 to 1998 I volunteered on and off with Inner City Ministries in Long Beach. In 1993 I created Freedom of the Heart Foundation in order to promote Chrisitian Concerts and raise money for InnerCity Ministries. The concerts were well attended but ended up losing money. Freedom of the Heart laid dormant in my heart until 2006. From 2000 to 2006 my family lived in Cambodia developing churches. In October 2004 one of the young women in a small village contracted HIV and we began an 18 month race to get her the medical help she needed to survive. Unfortunately she did not survive. Upon returning to Corona, California I am reviving Freedom of the Heart to raise money to provide for inner City Ministries and to help HIV/AIDS victims in Cambodia.
Having lived abroad I have had the opportunity to ponder the differences between the American culture and other cultures of the world. As such I consider myself a quasi-expert in global affairs, cross-cultural relations, and the mind of the third world citizen. I wish the president would have asked me before he invaded Iraq. I could have helped him have a deeper understanding of the trouble ahead of him and his presidency.
Finally, I would like to say that I think every man, woman and child from every tribe and nation is a masterpiece of God's own hand created to be the special persons they are. Each one is eternally valuable in His sight. It is my desire to see each one thrive to their optimum potential.
