Jean Leon Gerome and Lord Frederick Leighton are magnificent beyond words of course.
Leon Bonnat's painting titled Barber of the Suez is amazing. There is so much on that canvas! It tells such a huge story. A simple task, a simple pose yet so very illustrative and depicting a drastic difference in human emotion through two relaxed characters. It's beautiful. He did some others I need to dig up and post...I've not seen them on the internet and they should be available to others.
I also love George Watts for his enthusiasm (my mini bio does not do him justice - he was one happy wing nut) and Eakins is perhaps my favorite portrait painter. Such a Yankee, Eakins. He tells it like it is, the truth.
