I am asking this question, not answering

So, I need as many information on how to make a lensography, what are the benefits and I would like to hear about your personal experiences on this.

That's why is called 'lensograpghy experts', as the experts are you...

So there will be quotes from lensography experts, answering to 'what, why and how'....

Definitions first

Petrobiontic gives us some definitions and benefits on his lens : www.squidoo.com/groupies
According to Lily_Link,
'What is a Lensography?

A Lensography is a great way to share the lenses that you've made. You can separate themes of your lenses into different lensography sections. For example, if you have several basic themes such as dogs, cats, fish, and hamsters. Create four different lensography lenses, each displaying the lenses that you've created for each theme.

You may even want to create a lensography to show off all of your lenses. ' see the lensroll (www.squidoo.com/how_to_lensography)

Why having a lensography

Lily_Link tells us that 'can only increase the traffic to your lenses. Plus, a person looking for all the information they can find about hamsters, all in one place will make the search for knowledge easier on the searchee.'

Desiree_Richardson tells us her 5 top reasons for having a lensography: 'he Top Five Reasons to Have a Lensography
It's one easy address to promote.
It will become your calling card online.
People will get a chance to find out more about you, the lensmaster.
You can do anything you want with it!
They are really fun to look through. :)

Katyiana says that "owever, by creating a lensography, I have created something similar to the card catalog you would find at the library. What I have done is take my 186 lenses and organized them into various categories of like-topic lenses, so that if you wanted to see all of my Music lenses, you could find them in one section of my lensography, and skip over the Pokemon lenses that you weren't so interested in. This allows me to more efficiently get you to the content you are seeking, and by saving you time; hopefully you'll have a little more time to enjoy my lenses."

How to make it

Lily_Link tells us how to make a lensography:
'Once you've decided how you're going to group your lenses, whether you're going to group special themes or whether you're going to make one lensography with your newest lenses. Maybe you'll even choose your best lenses and make a lensography lens. The combinations are vast and wide.

1. So, once you've made that decision, on your dashboard, you will find the "make a lens" tab, which you should have found if you're interested in creating a Lensography Lens. You can, also, go here to find step one, in which you will type in what you're lens will be about.

2. From there, you will procede to make your lensography about your WW2 lenses.

3. Within the new lens, you will want to put various "Featured Lens" modules. You can find the option under the "Add Module" tab at the top of the page where you are creating your new lens.

4. When making a lensography make sure that you pick lenses that have pictures that will be seen. So that the orage square doesn't show on your lensography page. It's just more appealing.'

Diary september/october 2008

my tests in squidoo...

26th of September: I am exploring lijit- just added the module on top of this lens...I hope to discover in 2-3 days what it is about...

27/09 early in the morning - just added lijit on all my lenses - curious to check if the ranking changes in any way because of this....:)

27/09 late - i discovered that in the searching 'pool' of my engine i can add whatever site i want, therefore i added my blogs' content to my lenses content. still searching for the word 'moldoveanu' did not return anything, even if i have that both on my lenses and in my blogs....maybe it was too early....i'll check again tomorrow..

28/09 I tried to follow the 'free traffic for lenses' tips (above) and i registred with technorati and added google analitics on all my blogs...still working to add it on my lenses....

28/09 all day - i had no mood of updating or writing anything - the result: all the lesnes are down in the rank with 5000- 6000 places...so it seems that if you want to keep the ranking, need to publish daily, on each of the lens...i wonder how can manage this those who have hundreds of lenses...
what is better: to have a low number of lenses and update them, of produce new lenses, and just leave them as they are???? i have to ask this a giant squid....

29/09 i found out the importance of tagging the pictures from SemperFidelis , and how to embed pictures with html from beeobrien...not bad info for just one day....

01/10 today i have had the worst rank ever on all the lenses...and i keep updating as much as my time allows me...so i guess there are lenses with much interesting content, or is the fact that i have no network, or that i do not know (yet) to use all the facilities that bring good ranking...mayeb all of them... anyway today i tried to embed a picture from flickr into a text module using the img src function but it was impossible..i don't know what's wrong, it simply does not work if i use ...maybe is this not the correct synthax? i should ask someone...because asking the question on google does not get me relevant answers...

hey, i found the answer:
in flickr, there is the 'share this' option - on right side; click there and then choose 'embed it', and then they just give you the code to copy/paste in the post.....after 2 hours of pain, i finally get the answer...victory is my second name...and of course, the proof:
Edinburgh Festival fireworks 2008 15

02/10...oh, what a bad day, both in my squidoo ranking and in my life ...ranking is the lowest i ever had, and my life has no direction; anyway, i am using the sharing option from flickr that i discovred yesterday, and i even started a new blog on churches so that i can feed it into my lens and photophight and reverse; seems interesting, and looking forward for results; even more, i keep adding links inside the text, and so i keep the information moreinto content; let's see what it happens...

04/10 i just discovered, after following the tips that appear on right of the page, near bio, about squid video showcase. WOW! i like the video channels, and i used the opportunity to make a quick one on my favorite music - Directia 5 . here it is. Well, I am looking forward for votes and comments....and i think i am going to ask my friends to vote for it....to give it a better start...?...:)

09/10/08 well, for a few days i did not update anything. the ranking goes lower each day; i asked some friends to see my lenses, so a few clicks but none of them rated with stars my lenses. Why? because they need to have an account in order to vote, and they did not want to make one just to give a vote- how sad...why the content of the squiddoo does nor appeal them to make 'such' an effort...? i don't know; still i need to explore this.

Anyway, I have relaxed a little about the ranking part....and i just update the lenses or the blogs when i have something i feel is valuable to share.
And this feels good :).

still 09/10 for 3 more minutes :) - i quoted for the first time in my lens another lens related with my topic and the link it works! nice way to offer traffic to people with similar interests....even if i have done this quoting before, it was more a matter of intellectual property; now i am using links in order to support my topic....good to remember!

11/10 oh, i just had the thought to make my 'cats' lens, and of course, just added it -proudly- to my lensography :)

12/10 - just discovered the existence of squidpedia , a place where you can submit links to lenses you know/like/value - yours :) or others...have to check it more in depth tomorrow

15/10 well, it seems the best ranking is brought by real visits: clicks, rating, favoring, lensrolling, comments....more than your work on content,.....because this is about - right?- is about content ranking done by readers - a more extensive though ranking than that of digg- the way i understand digg.....mmmmm

17/10 well, i just discovered the need to add a content table to my lenses...i have decided not to create new lenses, but to update the content on existing ones, as the topics really mean something to me and whenever i find somenthing new, i just enrich the existing lens....anyway, thanks God that squidoo has the 'table of contents' module!!!!!

18/10 haa, finally i found a lens which tells us how many types of squidoo lens we have available for our play: Chadrew lists them: the usual squidoo lens, squidflix - for movie review (never used yet as i did not know it exists :)); squidlit - for reviewing books (not used it yet); the ever lens - your list of the best or the worst of whatever you think...; squidwho - about people - famous or friends, even yourself...;squidbids for ebay auctions - not sure will use it ; squidvids - my favorite these days; and monkeybrain lens- for discussions... quite a lot of options to choose and use....

19/10 well, i think i discovered that tags are important for people to find your lenses....i am going to work on them following days.....because i you think well, tags=keywords, and this is big in search engine....

21/10 just added some more lenses: Colinde - christmas carols and Romanian folk - i can't help building lenses and updating the existing ones...i should get a life :)

just got this idea!

I just got the idea of embeding documents using scribd platform....let's see if it works

Want to Be a Giant Squid
