Lensography: the preoccupations, passions and propensities of Ron Passfield

Well I have joined the ranks of Squidoo lensographers. Just putting all my lenses together has given me insight into how to progress my Squidoo marketing. I live near the River in the suburb of Bulimba in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I love tennis, dogs, internet marketing, trees, wild animals, music, online learning, rainforests...and it shows! I have created my 100th lens and undertaken a major re-write of this lensography - hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed putting it all together.

My professional e-portfolio can be found here:

Autobiography: Who is Ron Passfield

This autobiographical lens based on the "Who Is" template provides some insight into my lifestream with illustrations by way of stories, photos, commentaries and insights (with a touch of humor). Seth Godin and Megan Casey, in their free e-book, The Joy of Squidoo, describe my "Who Is" lens as "compelling" and offer it as an exemplar for an autobiography on Squidoo.

Purple Star Award Lenses

The following two lenses have won the Purple Star award. The Benjamin Andrew Footpath Library lens tells the story of Sarah Garnett's passion to bring books to the homeless and disadvantaged people in Sydney. It links the story to Seth Godin's call for us to become Leaders of a Tribe.

The Morningsong lens is a living lens that contributes to the development of my local Community Choir. It is fed by an active blog, sharing of resources, video examples of the songs we sing, practice midi's, song sheets and communication between members via the Guestbook. The Morningsong lens also serves to promote and build the Choir.

Squidoo Marketing

Squidoo Marketing Strategies was in the Top 100 Lenses for more than 420 days. The other lenses in this group relate to creating an authority site on Squidoo and using Squidoo for affiliate marketing.

RedGage - social bookmarking site

You can earn money from RedGage by uploading your Squidoo lens links, photos, blog posts, documents and other online content. These lenses provide access to tutorials, videos and audios that teach you how to participate in social networking and social bookmarking on RedGage. They highlight the importance of commenting with integrity and provide sound ways to make money on RedGage.

How to... Lenses

My group of "how to..." lenses where I record my own learning and practice. These lenses are evolving resources as I gather new information and try out different ways of doing Internet marketing.

Brisbane, Queensland - my home city

I live in the riverside suburb of Bulimba which sits on a bend in the Brisbane River near Breakfast Creek and opposite Hamilton. I have lived in my 1929 Queenslander with my wife and family since 1983. The suburb of Bulimba has undergone a massive explosion in that period - transforming from a local village to an up-market residential area with cinema complex, restaurants and cafes (15 in the main street) and parks and sporting grounds. My lenses here capture Brisbane's lifestyle and the essence of Bulimba. My Bulimba Memorial Park lens includes a short poem I wrote in honor of the servicemen and servicewomen who gave their lives so that we could enjoy freedom today.

Sunshine Coast, Queensland

Nature's beauty at our doorstep! It was through creating these lenses that I came to really appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. From the stunning beauty of the Noosa Biosphere (UNESCO listed world biosphere reserve - Noosa Heads and Noosaville) to the rolling surf and holiday resorts of Mooloolaba and Maroochydore - all within two hours drive or less from Brisbane. I have also created a tribute lens for the superb photography of BarbaraJH on Flickr who has captured the unbelievable beauty of the lesser-known Maroochydore area.

Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Maleny and Montville have been favorite haunts of ours since 1981. These beautiful mountain getaways have stunning views of the Sunshine Coast and are noted for their arts and crafts. People from Brisbane (1 1/2 hours drive away) flock to these mountain towns for day visits on weekends while families and couples spend weekends or week-long holidays at one of the the many mountain resorts. The Montville lens is designed as a simulated walk down the main street (based on photos I took on a weekend visit). The Woodford Folk Festival was formerly the Maleny Folk Festival (which outgrew its initial site).

Island in the Sun: Beautiful Islands off Queensland

These lenses cover Stradboke Island and the World Heritage listed, Fraser Island (both whale watching locations). Hervey Bay which is bounded by Fraser Island is also included. There is some remarkable synchronicity in the creation of two of these lenses. I developed the Stradbroke Island lens as my 50th lens (Giant Squid) when the whales were traveling past Straddie on their route north to the warmer waters of Hervey Bay and beyond for breeding. Then I created the Hervey Bay lens (100th lens) when the whales were on their return trip with their new calves and visiting the area to rest, feed and play (before completing the 5,000 klms trip to the Antarctic).

Australiana lenses

This is a mix of lenses about some well-known areas of Australia covering 3 different States - The Great Ocean Road (Victoria), Sydney (Boutique Hotels lens) and Surfers Paradise (Queensland).

Animals and Nature Lenses

I have a great love of animals and nature. Brisbane is blessed with a number of great rainforests that are about 1 hours drive from the city center. I feature one of them here in my Tropical Rainforest lens which is designed as a simulated walk through the rainforest on Mt. Glorious (the lens also includes an Animoto video I made from the photos I took on the actual walk through the rainforest). The Tree Meditations lens features some of my poems about trees - an obvious passion. The other two lenses show my fascination for Giant Pandas and Platypuses.

Mastering the Inner Game of Tennis

Well, here's my abiding passion, tennis. I played tennis fixtures for about 30 years, including many years at "A" Grade and Pennant level. Now I play a more sedate game once or twice a week either with my friends or with one of my daughters. The lenses draw on my articles and my free e-book on Playing the Inner Game of Tennis.

These lenses draw on my articles and my free e-book on Playing the Inner Game of Tennis. There are more to come in the future.

Affiliate Marketing lenses

I have been involved in affiliate marketing since 2003. I learned much of what I know about affiliate marketing via the Affiliate Classroom, now Lurn Inc. (covered in my lens, "How do Affiliate programs work?). I am now a life member of Affiliate Classroom. I learned about Personal Branding and how to blog through Affiliate Classroom and created my blog, Affiliate Marketing Coach, in 2005. I have since re-focused the blog to talk about Squidoo, social networking and affiliate marketing. Since my early days in Internet Marketing were involved with network marketing, I have included two lenses on this topic.

Affiliate Marketing Networks

These lenses discuss the affiliate marketing networks I have been involved with over a number of years - Clickbank, Pepperjam Network, InstantPaySites (PayPal e-books). I have been interviewed by Kris Jones, CEO of Pepperjam Network, about Squidoo and affiliate marketing and this interview is featured on my Pepperjam Network lens.

Marketing Plan Lenses

These lenses were developed to promote the One Week Marketing Plan that I have successfully used to promote affiliate products. The weekly marketing plan (OWM) integrates Squidoo marketing with article marketing and blogging.

Blogging lenses

I have been involved in blogging since 2005 via my main blog, Affiliate Marketing Coach. Having learned to blog via Affiliate Classroom, I was in a position to accept an 18 months paid contract to produce and maintain a team blog about Developments in Online Learning for a network of 180 teachers and trainers throughout Queensland - an exciting time!

Blog Training Lenses

These lenses focus on the amazing Blog Success Program - an advanced, custom built training center for bloggers who want to make money immediately. I was impressed with the extensive course resources and personalized help afforded members. In particular were the case studies presented by successful members of Blog Success. My lens, Blog Success Case Study, gives one example of these shared case studies.

Online learning Lenses

I spent 4 years as the National Change Manager (contracted role) for the Vocational Education and Training Sector in Australia. My role was to work with Senior Managers in TAFE Institutes throughout Australia to help them develop whole-of-organization change management plans to build their online learning capacity in their vocational education Institutes. We used action learning as our approach with the aid of face-to-face workshops, web board, online chats and teleconferences. I also facilitated online learning resource exchanges between school teachers, TAFE teachers and private providers throughout Queensland via a Partnering for Professionalism Blog and face-to-face workshops. These lenses reflect my 5 years work in the area of online learning.

Showcasing two artists -a photographer and a landscape artist

In these two lenses, I showcase the art of a photographer and a landscape/seascape painter. Like many other people I have been supremely impressed with the work of BarbaraJH on Flickr. With her explicit permission (and gratitude), I built a lens to highlight her photography of her home town, Maroochydore (one of my favorite lenses).

The other lens showcases the work of my landscape artist friend, Denis Brockie, who is a resident of Stradbroke Island. Denis is a professional artist who has held three exhibitions on the island and won the d'Arcy Doyle Landscape Prize. I used the "Who Is" format for this lens and made extensive use of Flickr's "SlideShow" facility to display Denis' paintings.

Music Lenses

These lenses display some elements of my wide taste in music - Eva Cassidy, Celine Dion, Michael Jackson and the Receiving End of Sirens. I frequently play the music on my computer via my lenses. Eva Cassidy would have to be my favorite singer.

Charity Lenses

I have been donating to these two charities for some time. I hope to contribute more lenses in this area and have commenced discussions with a great local charity that has 1,000 volunteers who provide funds directly to poor schools in India.

Health Lenses

Health is an abiding area of interest for me as a Baby Boomer. In my Baby Boomer health lens I focus on the beneficial effects of becoming involved in social networking and challenge the prevailing myth that "over 50's are incapable of learning about technology".

Marketing Training Lenses

These lenses cover three areas that are elements of my Internet marketing approach - web hosting, article writing and PPC. My emphasis here is in sharing my own learning and pointing to resources that I have found particulary useful in my own development as an Internet marketer.

Video Marketing Lenses

Video marketing has been an exciting area of exploration for me and will feature much more prominently in my Internet marketing in the near future. I have thoroughly enjoyed creating videos via Animoto and Camtasia - next step, my webcam.

Traffic Generation Lenses

Targeted traffic is the lifeblood of any online enterprise and I am always on the lookout for ways to grow my traffic.

Dog Training Lenses

Dogs have been very much a part of my life since I was very young. I have learned a lot from our dogs who are no longer with us - our frisky Golden Cocker Spaniel (Peter), our temperamental Pekinese (Chow Mein) and our playful Golden Retrievers (Bindy & Cindy).

Miscellaneous Lenses

These lenses have sprung up from an interest at the time of writing. The Managing Teleworkers lens resulted from my work in training State Government managers in teleworking and the implications for their management approach.
