  • Carol Williams May 21, 2011 @ 4:45 am | delete
I came back to let you know how this lentil curry turned out. I thought it was great! I added some frozen spinach and some yogurt while it was reheating, the yogurt made the curry a little bit more creamy and I thought improved it. I didn't think that my husband would like lentil curry (he doesn't like much if it doesn't have meat in it) but he cleared his bowl. I will definately be making this again. Thank you!
  • RawBill May 17, 2011 @ 3:42 pm | delete
I actually had a lentil curry last night. I eat mainly a diet of raw foods but as it is coming into winter here, I like to eat more warming foods, so lentil curries are always one of the first things I go for. Very nice with steamed veggies through it and then poured over a bed of lettuce!
  • Helenee May 11, 2011 @ 2:22 pm | delete

  • Jamie Jan 22, 2010 @ 12:31 am | delete
I love your recipes, but there is no need to put your fans through the pain of of cleaning lentils and cooking them for hours. They are legumes and whether you do the work yourself or buy organicic (cooked) cans, they have been thoroughly cooked. Same goes for beans.

I totally agree that a curried lentil dish is best served the next day after the flavors meld. It's just so hard to not eat it the night before!

Have you seen whf, com? I love how this site cooks (sautees) onions, garlic, and a ton of vegetables in vegetable broth instead of frying them. I'll never fry again. Try it: you may want to repost this recipe.

Also: I just printed out your recipe for celery soup. 11 pages in full color! You know you can do better than that.
  • flighty02 Feb 2, 2010 @ 2:24 am | delete
Yes Jamie, you can use canned lentils, however, using the dried lentils costs so much less. Imagine how many cans you will have to buy to make the same number of lentil curry that you will get from the dried ones... worth a little extra effort I think.
You make a good point about printing off the recipes, thank you. I am in the process of making printable versions of all my recipes.

This is a fantastic recipe, I am certainly going to try it! I am such a huge fan of lentil curry since living on 'dal bhat' the staple diet in Nepal for 4 months! I have made an article about my time living with a family in Nepal, with a section called 'Learning to love lentils!', feel free to check it out if you are interested:

    Thanks!

Thank you so much for the blessing Brenda! I wasn't crazy about lentils either until I made this but they really aren't that bad if you do manage to get up the nerve to try them again :) [in reply to Treasures-By-Brenda]

Beautifully done lens! I haven't ever had lentil curry. Hopefully, I'll get up the nerve to try it. (I'm not too crazy about lentils...) Blessed by an Angel.

I made this the other day and added aubergines as you suggested. Had to come back to tell you it was fantastic! Thanks for the recipe.

Love the complexity of Indian flavors, esp. when the recipe is not too difficult. Beautifully done.

An excellent lens. I have lentils fairly regularly, and have even made moong dal a couple of times. Never had them altogether, but will definitely try this recipe.
    Favoriting and lensrolling.

This sounds really yummy! I mostly use lentils in soups to bulk them up and make them more filling but I am definitely going to try your recipe I'm sure the family will love it.

Yum! I make a curry lentil soup just by throwing in some cooked onion, lentils and curry powder into a pot of water. I will have to try this one. Looks good!

Sounds delicious. Good tip for getting 'lump-free' garlic by grating it. I normally whack it with the side of my knife, and then grind it with a little salt, still using the flat side of the knife blade. It would be nice to welcome you to my group 'The Curry Temple' if you're interested.
