Leopard Gecko Handling - Things To Consider

Here are a few things that you need to consider in leopard gecko handling. A leopard gecko are among those type of animals that are small and bigger animals, that includes you, are considered by them as predators. So it is but natural for your little pet to feel threatened or frightened when you try to grab or hold it. Another consideration is your experience with handling a leopard gecko or any other small creature. Whatever your experience is, grabbing a small creature or a leopard gecko is definitely not the correct way of leopard gecko handling. This creatures are very sensitive to small movement so any harsh approach will likewise result in a violent reaction from the leopard gecko and the first violent return you might receive is a bite from your pet leopard gecko.

Baby Leopard Gecko Handling

Do you have a new baby leopard Gecko that moves very fast. Does it hate you and keeps biting you? Well, baby leopard gecko handling can be a lot easier compared to a mature leopard gecko. Here's how to do it: Slowly and gently introduce your hand to the leopard gecko and let it crawl to you hand. Be patient and wait for your pet to walk to you hand and do not ever grab it. This way, your pet leopard gecko will slowly be accustomed to its environment and will not regard your hand as something that could hurt it. Do it on a daily basis and letting it walk to your hand for about 5 minutes. In a weeks time, your leopard gecko will become used to it and will be friendly to you. Also take note that when handling your baby leopard gecko, avoid holding it too long because without you knowing it, you are actually causing too much stress on you leopard gecko and could potentially cause injury to your pet.

Mature Leopard Gecko Handling

Mature Leopard Gecko Handling will probably take longer compared to handling baby leos. You see, matured leopard gecko have grown accustomed to a different environment and to them, you could be considered a predator and them the prey. This little creature easily get frightened so you have to be patient and be gentle when you are in their presence. In your daily feeding and cleaning of their cage, talk to them so that they will grow familiar with your voice. Also try hand feeding them so they won't regard you as a predator but as a friend. When your pet leopard gecko begins to get familiar with its surroundings, you can start introducing your hand inside the cage for it to climb. Once it start to walk on your hands, you can be sure that it is no longer scared but starting to feel comfortable. Do it everyday and pretty soon it will just walk to you hand every time you want to hold it or you can just scope it and just let it walk on your hands. But whatever you do, never hold it by the tail because it is very sensitive and they will easily drop it so be careful when handling your leopard gecko pet.

I used this heat emitter for my leopard geckos. Makes their big place warm and cozy. What I love about this is that it gives heat without the light. But this heater can really get very hot so make sure to calibrate it to the right temperature for your gecko by placing it in the right place and distance.

Where I Learned The Correct Leopard Gecko Handling

I used to just grab my pet leopard geckos before and even drop its tail. Probably it was because of my harsh movement or handling. I also get a lot of bites from the little guys and I don't blame them for it. My friend saw what I was doing and told me I was doing it all wrong and that I could potentially hurt or worst, kill my pet leopard gecko. Thanks to my friend John for introducing me to the great guide for beginners and to would be keepers of leopard gecko, my leopard geckos are now strong and healthy. Without it, I would probably have killed my pet.
