Amazon Review: Leprechaun's are tricksters that can't be outsmarted--at least, that's their reputation. Clever Tom knows this when he accidently comes upon one. So, HE'S not going to be fooled by any trickery. And what does Tom want of this tiny fairy-tale-like creature? The pot of gold that every leprechaun has hidden, which he will take and become rich. Even though leprechauns are tricky, they are honest to a fault, and that's what Tom is counting on.

He captures and forces the leprechaun to make a promise about the whereabouts of his hidden treasure. But leprechauns are known for NEVER giving up their pot of gold. How can this honest fairy promise Tom the location of his "loot" and still fool him so he can't find it? Well, as a leprechaun, he is very clever--that's how. You'll enjoy his cleverness!(Beautiful and humorous pictures, too!)

[This is an Irish folk tale picture book suitable as a read-aloud to pre-school through grade 3, or as an independent read for grades 3-5. It is recommended by the School Library Journal.]

Review: There is no excuse for not buying this book if you are looking for a way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with your child. The paperback is very inexpensive and as such one might think it doesn't have much to offer but it does.

Ivan Robertson managed to write a cute story of a leprechaun while packing a lot of Irish culture and history into this little book. For instance we learn about the date and type of celebration one has in Ireland, what a shillelagh (shaw lay lee) is, what "Cead mile failte" (cade meela fall-cha) expresses, that Gaelic is their oldest language, why shamrocks are important, that green is the national color of Ireland, soda bread is traditional, and "Danny Boy" is a song special to the Country.

Katy Braun's illustrations are fun, festive, and green. This is the best St. Patrick's day book I have found so far for my wee lass.

Amazon Review: This charming picture book for young readers is sure to delight any child with its comical story line and whimsical watercolor drawings.
Everyone knows that leprechauns hoard gold and their main function, besides being shoemakers to the fairies, is to hide their pots of gold from the grasping hands of humans who would take it from them if they could. The trick is to put it at the ends of rainbows where it is safe since no human has ever found the end of a rainbow. It's not that the dear fellows don't want people to find the gold, but they are very selective about the kind of person who finds it. It must be someone with a "bit of luck and a bit of imagination."
While protecting pots of gold is their job, the leprechauns can't stay focused on it when there is so much mischief to be done on the way, mischief they can't resist because, it's just what leprechauns do, don't you know? They are what they are and it can't be helped.
Ari, Boo and Col, the three engaging leprechauns in the story, do eventually get to their job-site at rainbow's end, but the distractions that threaten to make them late are really the main delight of the book. From polishing the cow's hooves red to tying the legs of long underwear, drying on the hedge, into a knot, to putting a tennis ball under a farmer's hen just to make him wonder, children will be kept laughing while being thoroughly engaged in the hilarious illustrations.
This is a must have for any young child's library.
