Leptin and Weight Loss -- an Overview
Leptin is a hormone created by fat that does play a central role in weight loss. But so do some other hormones, and so does our old friend inflammation.
This lens will help you to understand these concepts so you can throw in the garbage old and unhealthy weight loss concepts like suppressing appetite and stimulating metabolism.
Why You DON'T Want to Suppress Appetite
Lean body mass is everything in your body but fat. So we're talking about your bones, your organs, your muscles.
Most of the time when people restrict their diets without retraining their bodies on how to burn FAT, they lose POUNDS (lean body mass). And this is never permanent. They end up putting the weight back on. But the new weight is FAT.
So they've lost lean body mass and gained fat, and even though the scale says the same thing as it did in the beginning, you're actually LESS HEALTHY having gone through the yo-yo.
Please, do NOT simply cut back on food if you need to lose weight. Read through this lens and understand the issues first. And you can call me (number in bio) if you have questions.
Why You DON'T Want to Speed Up Metabolism
I describe the problem like this: imagine that the blade on your lawnmower is bent and hitting the guard. It's making an awful sound and not cutting the grass very well. You could rev the engine and perhaps get it to cut the grass a little better, but the sound will get even worse and you'll destroy the lawnmower before long.
That's what happens when you speed up metabolism rather than addressing the underlying problems of excess weight. You literally BURN OFF YOUR YEARS more quickly.
We like to call that "aging."
Is that really worth a few lost pounds? Pounds that will probably come back on? No way. If you want to lose weight AND stay healthy, you want to avoid this short-term solution and address the real problem. It doesn't take long, and it works almost like magic.
More to Come!
