Leptin and Weight Loss
When I heard about Leptin recently, I was very intrigued by it's function in our bodies. But even more so, I was interested in it's potential for helping people lose weight. Dr. Ron Rosedale says that "Leptin is the major hormone that we now know regulates fat storage... and it controls the area of the brain that regulates appetite." The effects of leptin were first discovered at the Jackson Laboratory in 1950 by studying mutant obese mice that arose at random within a mouse colony. Leptin itself was discovered in 1994 by Jeffrey M. Friedman and colleagues at Rockefeller University through the study of such mice.
The solution to obesity lies in the regulation of leptin in our bodies because the message that controls fat storage is too loud to be understood by the brain. Today, there are leptin weight loss products that help regulate the message of leptin in the body, allowing your brain to hear the message more clearly. This process was clinically proven in humans during a double-blind, placebo controlled clinical trial recently completed at the University of Connecticut. There is another study being conducted at Rockefeller University on Effects of Leptin Treatment on Weight Loss that is currently in phase II right now.
