A list of free online webcomics written by and about lesbians

There are a lot of webcomics out there which include gay cast members. GLBT themes tend to be handled a lot more sympathetically and believably, and are covered a lot more often (no publishers to fight) online. Some that focus on lesbians as the main characters are linked below. They're a mixture of beautiful to borderline r-rated, shades of manga-ish and cartoonish to artistic and realistic (Blue is especially lovely, art-wise), humorous (Mundane Nirvana is brilliant, even if it leaves you hanging) to serious. A lot of them are short, a few are abandoned (but still worth reading) and some are long-running 'professional' webcomics.

The best known is probably Yu Me and I Was Kidnapped by Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space, both by Megan Rose Gedris (check out her LPFOS spin-off novella Crazy For Her and her Guide to Writing Gay Characters) but there are a fair few more.

As the webcomics are all free, I really strongly suggest you check them out - and if you like the look of any, please consider buying the books, as most of these artists had to self-publish and work their fingers off, every step of the way.

If you're interested in buying a copy and supporting one of these artists (most webcomics are published by people trying to do it for themselves, usually still in school or university, and it's a huge leap to make it into print!) then I've listed the first books in each published series. If you're looking for manga and graphic novels, then check out the Yuri Manga and Lesbian Graphic Novels pages!

Lesbian Webcomics Online!

A list of lesbian webcomics great and small

For reviews of some of the lesbian webcomics below, check out the list of lesbian webcomics on Good Lesbian Books, and for the really Not Safe For Work (i.e. violence and full length nudity) webcomics, see the Really Really NSFW Lesbian Webcomics list.
angels2200.com
Men have been pretty much wiped out by a virus, so it that means women-only crews in space - leading to love, loss and much drama. It's pretty epic, though.
Blue
A short and unfinished, but sweet, believable and beautifully hand drawn and painted comic. Hush Me by the same artist is much the same.
Boobs Ahoy hosted by DrunkDuck.com
Lesbian pirates on the high seas!
Flaky Pastry - Home
A fun, fantasy webcomic that uses liberal doses of parody, violence, elves, catgirls, and daily survival as it follows three terribly mismatched flatmates around.
Girly (Slightly NSFW)

Girly is a comic about two girls, and the adventures in the town they live in. It's a story-based comic which is supposed to be sort of funny and romantic from time to time. It contains a lot of people trying to awkwardly live their lives in a really bizarre setting. If this sounds right up your alley, there are a few ways to jump into this comic:

Skirts the edges of being safe for work using metaphor and silliness (and enormous dildoes as clubs...). The crazy and romantic Winter adopts Otra as her cynical sidekick (half reality, half metaphor for 'girlfriend')
Go Get a Roomie - She loves life, beer, and girls! (NSFW)
NSFW An awesome webcomic, but contains quite a lot of toplessness! There's a review here
HEARD
    A slice-of-life webcomic about a college-aged lesbian surviving in a girl-eat-girl world
Jane's World
Jane's World is best described as a smart ensemble comedy, blending the classic comic strip style of Lynn Johnston with the racier writing style of shows like Sex and the City and Friends. Jane is the lesbian heir to the hard-luck Charlie Brown, somehow always winding up as the punch line in her own comic.
I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space!!! - Drawn in Lesb-O-Vision!
I Was Kidnapped by Lesbian Pirates from Outerspace, No. 1; May 2008
Drawn in Lesb-O-Vision! A sci-fi, pulp fiction inspired lesbianic adventure from Megan Rose Gedris.

    What's it about?
Really? You want to know what it's about? You've read the title and you still think it might be about two guys who sit around playing video games and making fun of everything in the world? Seriously, it's about a woman who gets herself kidnapped by lesbian pirates from outer space. It's funny. You'll laugh.
Khaos Komix
This is a comic about gender and sexuality. It follows the lives of 8 main characters: Steve, Mark, Amber, Nay, Tom, Alex, Charlie and Jamie. It's about them finding themselves, falling in love, lust and like and how hard they fight to get there.

Each episode follows one of the characters along more or less the same period of time, and they all end up paired off, somehow.
Menage a 3 (NSFW)
Menage a 3 follows the lives of comic book geek, Gary and his way-sexier-than-he-is roommates in their Montreal tight-as-a-sandwich apartment; where the walls are so thin there are virtually no barriers between their rooms.

NSFWMenage a 3 happily seizes any excuse to get girls kissing each other .... I'd say it was lesbianish, but really it's just an excuse to throw every member of the cast in bed with every other member, and most of them constantly change their minds about their sexuality!

Menage a 3 is out of stock on Amazon, at the moment.
Misfile
A moronic Angel accidentally turns a boy into a girl, and jumps a girl back a few years. They both learn to cope together with school and racing cars... with lots of underlying lesbian tension (or is it lesbian if one of them is 'really' a boy?)
Mundane Nirvana
    ~A Symphony in Geek~by Kitty&Rhys
If you're the type that finds sarcastic cynicism painful,
enjoys conforming to society's expectations of you,
or pronounces "homosexual" like it's four words,
all of them bad, this is not going to be the comic for you.
See that little "x" in the top of your browser window? Click it. Thanks.
There will also be occasional language.
Nowhere Girl - Comics
Two episodes following a depressed lesbian as she finds her feet in life and adulthood.
Other People's Business
After a tragic event, down-on-her-luck Daniela "Danny" Alvarez is being coaxed back into a life of normality by her best friend, sensible sous chef Mercedes, when a smart-mouthed sleazy little thief bursts through Danny's window and drags her into a world full of conspiracies, cults, and evil corporations, and accidentally gets Danny on the road to feeling human again.

From Sandra Fuhr, this is a spin-off of her previous comic, Friendly Hostility, which was a spin-off of Boy Meets Boy. This is the first one to feature any lesbians though.
Penny & Aggie
The prom queen, the class weirdo and the bond between them that neither can explain.

The prom queen, the class weirdo and the bond between them that neither can explain.

Penny and Aggie makes a big thing about how the two title characters 'might end up together one day', but takes a very long time to get there. The two title characters do end up dating, and there are two other lesbians in the supporting cast.

Just be aware that the first few books, starting with The Best of Enemies: A Penny and Aggie Collection, will have very little lesbian content.
Plastic
    A yuri webcomic by Skullbie
After hiding her relationship with Amy for years, Shanna is found out by Layla- a girl renowned at school for her insane 'vigilante justice'. Shanna must keep Layla from telling her secret-but how?
Punch an' Pie: try a slice of life... then swallow.

Punch an' Pie follows two background characters from Queen of Wands, who are also girlfriends. One is hyper and small and blonde, the other is tall, shy and willowy.

Red String
A Japanese high schooler's coming-of-age tale of romance, destiny, and self-discovery.

Red String has a couple of girls pair up (it's basically a comic about the various romances of the characters), but this happens in the second book (and then continues along with the rest of the story).
simply sarah
A story of love, friendship and uncertainty. Sarah is just an ordinary teenager, but she happens to be gay. Throughout this story she begins to discover how precious friendships are, how awkward and frustrating falling in love is, and how difficult being in love can really be.

Starts off simple and arty, over time Sarah grows up and there are some NSFW pages as a result!
Sister Claire: Pregnant nun, Holy Crap!
Abandoned as an infant and taken in by a kindly nun, all Sister Claire ever wanted was to have a purpose. But when a beautiful blue lady explodes out her toilet and tells her she's pregnant with the new Messiah, Claire realizes she may be in for more than she bargained for!
Starcrossed
Starcrossed is a story about a closet lesbian high school student named Quinn Morrigan who prefers to ditch school and play guitar rather than the norm. She aspires to be a musician and may or may not have delusions of grandeur. No one knows for sure because she's always daydreaming. All in all Quinn was just an average high school student who's just plain bored, that is, until a meteor shower changes her life.

One of those sweet, arty comics that is sadly very short and rarely updated.
Taiki
Taiki is about a girl named Taiki and her life in her second half of high school and what it's like to discover her sexuality and all the crazy stuff that comes with that.
The Lounge: Cute, Sexy, and Purrific!
Join Italy and her staff as they run a multi-cool store. This webcomic has a lot of manga elements, a long-running lesbian couple, and has been going about nine years.
When She Was Bad
For every story about a hero, there is a "bad guy". Only, this story isn't about the hero. It's about the smart-alec, tough-as-nails villain. About her fights, her triumphs, her losses, her lackeys...
And maybe her love life. If she can ever get the guts to ask the girl of her dreams out.

The art starts off truly awful, but it does improve, and the concept is unique and fun.
Why Me?
Dee's had it. She's got a lousy job, no girlfriend, and a mad scientist of a roommate who's always late with the rent. Then things go from bad to worse when her fairy godmother shows up to make sure she lives happily ever...
YU+ME: dream - Surreal Lesbian Romance Adventure Webcomic
Fiona met the girl of her dreams... and then she woke up.

Fiona met the girl of her dreams... and then she woke up. Another webcomic from Megan Rose Gedris, this is a surreal and ever-changing comic (in story and art style), that will keep you guessing until the end.

But ultimately, it's about two girls in love.
Brightest
Charlie meets a girl at a concert and sleeps with her, and then tries to figure out what that means.
