What Stood Out For Me
In our book club this month, we chose "Between A Rock And AHard Place" by Aron Ralston. What a hard challenge that he
attempted.
When I first read the book, I thought, I would never go
somewhere that I knew people didn't know where I was at.
Learning about his day, he attempted the hard rocks on his
own. He had a thrill to get to amazing sites that others
around him had a hard time doing with him. Which is probably
why he went on this excursion himself.
If you don't know Aron's story, then I encourage you to read
his book. As a piano player, it makes me cringe when I see
one loose a hand!
It takes a strong person to analyze the situation that you are
in and find a way to get out. We should learn from that in
our lives and business today.
Look at how things are put together now, and analyze how you
can change things. It's amazing that Aron just lost his hand,
because he could have lost his life out there.
When he was put in the situation he was in, you really had to
factor the adrienline and the emotion you go through in a
tramatic experience like that. It made me realize that I had
to watch myself not putting the emotion in my business, in
which emotion really drives us in business.
You really don't look at the little scratches on your
sunglasses anymore, you have to look at the big picture. How
you are going to truly step out and survive. Your survival
instincts kicks in and takes hold of all the possiblities that
are available.
Then when you take a step, you keep taking more baby steps in
order to see what is working. After a few baby steps and you
don't see much is accomplished, some just truly set back.
Retire early, and don't want to go any further.
I see more and more becoming more skeptical of what is
actually possible. Without taking some baby steps of taking
some kind of action, you don't know. You could just do
nothing and die out there on the rocks, so you have to at
least try knocking some of that hard rock away.
This book had a lot of great quotes, but one that stood out was:
"Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do." From Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
So keep learning and applying into your life. Learn more for yourself by reading this book,
Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston. Comment on how these lessons apply to you.
