I've done a complete overhaul on my entire 'learn how to drum' series. And the best place for me to continue these lessons is over at HubPages.

The series has been rejigged and reworked and is easier to follow in simpler steps. I have also included a Comments box if you wish to leave feedback or ask any questions.

Start now on Lesson One.

How big a kit do I need?

See the photo of the kit below? You don't need one that big. That's all for show.

A good quality five piece kit (plus cymbals) is all you need. As you improve you can add to it. Maybe an extra floor tom. Another mounted tom. A second snare, which is a good idea in any case. If you break a snare skin you'll be stuffed in the middle of a gig. But having a second snare set up with your kit such as a piccolo might add a whole different dimension to your playing.

Where you might go overboard is in the cymbals department. It's like having a box of crayons, you can never have too many colors.
