Make sense?

Ok, now let's try to understand how things normally happen during most recruiting processes.
Today, more than ever before, hundreds of resumes are received for each job ad; do you agree with me?
Good, so you absolutely need something that tells recruiters Hey! I think you must have a look at my resume! This is why I think I am the person you are looking for!

Cover Letter Goals

Apart from this first goal, a cover letter must also tell the reader:

  • How well you communicate
  • Your level of professionalism
  • Clues to your personality
  • How detail oriented you are (i.e., are there typos or other errors?)

So, a cover letter becomes an introduction, a sales pitch, and a proposal for further action all in one

  • Cover Letter Structure

    The first part or opening

You must tell here who you are and why you are writing. So, this part includes a brief introduction of yourself as well as information about the specific position you are applying for.

    The second or selling part

This is probably the most important one. Here is where you must demonstrate and convince the reader that you are the right candidate. You should not copy your CV here, just show how your skills and previous accomplishments let you fulfill the requirements for this position

    The third or flattering part

Also called the motivational part, it lets you tell the reader why you would like to work at his organization, in other words the 'Why Them'. You can mention the company's reputations, culture, management philosophy or anything else that they take pride in

Last but not Least, The Closing part

The closing paragraph isn't just about thanking the reader for taking the time to read your letter. It is much more than this: It's a Request for Further Action.
You must take the initiative here and suggest, in a courteous way, how to proceed. You could mention that you will call or email the reader to follow up and see if a meeting can be arranged.

    Final Considerations

As in all of your correspondence, brevity is important.

  • Use a current version of MS Word for creating letters.
  • Your letters should be sincere.
  • Make certain that you are using good quality stationary.
  • Recheck your grammar, spelling and format. (DO NOT rely on spell check.)
