Summer Lettuce Garden Growing
Every summer I am inspired to plant and grow my very own raised bed lettuce garden. I constructed a basic raised bed planter box for my lettuce garden. I purchased the lumber at The Home Depot. They will even cut the wood for you at minimal cost.My favorite type of lettuce garden is the baby mesclun gourmet certified organic heirloom sold in packets of 1200 seeds. This is the type of meant to grow a bed of lettuce with. I prefer heirloom varieties because they have not been genetically modified. Includes Black Seeded Simpson, Buttercrunch, Green Salad Bowl, Lolla Rossa, Red Oakleaf and Rouge d'Hiver seeds.
Part of the fun of growing a lettuce garden is watching it progress day by day. My 2 boys love inspecting the sprouting plants.

20 Minute Lettuce Garden Planting
I was able to plant my lettuce garden in less than 20 minutes time. I have two 4 feet by 2 feet raised bed planter boxes. You don't need raised bed plantar boxes. I used them because it's easier to maintain.- I turn the soil to freshen it up.
- I sprinkle a half pack of organic mesculin mix seeds over the freshly turned soil and water it.
- Next, I sprinkle a 1/4 inch layer of organic potting soil over the seeds and water again.
This is all I do!
Organic Seeds For Your Lettuce Garden
These are the seeds that I use for my own lettuce garden
This delicious baby lettuce garden mix is terrific in containers. Includes Black Seeded Simpson, Buttercrunch, Green Salad Bowl, Lolla Rossa, Red Oakleaf and Rouge d'Hiver seeds. Sow in successive plantings for a long harvest period.
Harvesting Your Lettuce Garden
Harvest time for your lettuce garden is the best! I use a regular paper cutting scissor and give my salad a "hair cut". The lettuce garden will continue to grow all the way to Christmas time if you are careful not to cut all the way to the dirt. This type of fresh salad is so tasty that I never drown it in heavy salad dressings. I top the salad with fresh ground black peppercorn, grated Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar.
This salad is great to serve to your guests. Only the finest restaurants in town can come close to this kind of fresh lettuce!
