Leverhulme Park Bolton is the largest area of public parkland in the Bolton area and was given as a gift to the people of Bolton by Lord Leverhulme.
The park is home to a number of popular leisure facilities as well as hosting many of the towns annual festivals, fairs and charity events.
In fact, all it's missing is somewhere to play golf!
It used to host the annual Bolton Show which was attended by over a hundred thousand visitors and featured craft tents, displays by a number of professional entertainers, a large amusement fair and "car boot" type vendors along the main path.
But the show was canceled after a number of years were hit by particularly bad weather. The Bolton Shows fate was ultimately sealed with the council in Bolton marketing the towns more multicultural events.

Boltons One Big Weekend

Grab your diary and cancel all engagements for the 1st to the 4th of September 2011 as this is when Boltons One Big Weekend comes to Leverhulme Park. The show kicks off on Thursday with a funfair, with the main events happening on the Saturday and Sunday.
If you are old enough to remember the heady days of the Bolton Show then you will love the One Big Weekend as it is strikingly similar. With a number of attractions pencilled in for the long weekend such as:
- Dog display team
- Titan the Robot
- Stunt bikes
- Vintage truck show
- Wall of death bike show
Phew!

If you plan on taking the kids on the funfair, buy them a £2 wristband as rides are then just a pound.
Remember the date: Thursday 1st til Sunday 4th September. Bring the kids and show them what a Bolton show was like "in t' th'owd days!"
Race For Life Bolton

The Race For Life event was run at Leverhulme Park on the 4th July 2010 and attracted a huge number of ladies of every shape, size, age and ability thanks to the extensive radio and online video marketing campaign to raise awareness.

This womens only event attracts over 3,000 enthusiastic participants who run, jog, walk or wheel round the 5km circuit that starts and finishes on the running track.

Congratulations girls!
Leverhulme Park Running Track

The Leverhulme Park running track is a modern synthetic track that is home to the Bolton United Harriers Athletic Club.
It was as the old cinder track where Boltons Legend Ron Hill set a club record for the 25000m race in 1965 that still stands today.
Today it hosts a wide range of club and school athletics meetings and has excellent facilities, including changing rooms, tannoy system and plenty of parking space. So whether you simply want to lose weight or would rather join an athletics club, Leverhulme Park athletic track has it all.

Five A Side Football

The five a side football courts are a popular addition to Leverhulme park, whatever the weather. The outside courts are floodlit during the dark winter evenings and draw a healthy number of football players, from enthusiastic kids right up to talented Sunday League players from the Bolton and Farnworth area.
There is plenty of parking space available and the facilities inside the clubhouse are first class. So don't just sit there in front of your computer screen, grab a few of your mates and enjoy a five a side kickabout!
Bowling

There are a number of bowling greens on Leverhulme park. The one in the photo lies at the Bury road end of the park and is buzzing with activity during Spring, Summer and Autumn.
For the local active adult community it is more than just a place to play bowls; it is an active community meeting area where you can put the World to rights as you enjoy a relaxing game.
As I took this picture in the middle of February, it was a bit too cold for even the most enthusiastic bowlers!
Silver Birch Horse Show

The Silver Birch horse show is usually held down at the bottom fields and draws a large number of entrants from all over the north west.
With categories to suit all age groups, the Leverhulme Park horse show is one of the events to pencil in on your calendar each year.
Walks and Pathways

Leverhulme park has a number of well kept walks that take you through meadows, by the side of bubbling streams and along tree lined pathways. Why not bring your dog to enjoy the walk, not forgetting the clean-up supplies. It's so peaceful I usually take my iPod as it helps me to relax!
Park your car up at the Leverhulme Park Community Centre car park and take a pleasant stroll down the hill and along the river bank toward the exit at Radcliffe Road. Turn right and again follow the river until you get back to the bridge. Take the tree lined path that brings you out near the Bury Road bowling green and then walk along the main path through the park back to your car.
