How Levi's European Ordering Pattern Works

PM: Well the pattern work in that you sell we have almost a 12 to 16 week cycle before the season each year to sell in and our major retail customers will mostly all pre-order against an assortment plan and about +40% of the business is pre-ordered and that can influence demand because if you don't get a good pre-booking or pre-order either in terms of the number of doors? or in the amount of products that they can take in, that can affect, what we call, your at-once or replinishment business theres not as much to replinish against so it's a real influence in terms of how much business is done and how quickly when you are on the downside of the curve, how quickly you can fix it.
Caller: And this order seasons work These occur just the two seasons?
PM: Well, to be honest, we've changed our go-to market process we book once and if we see we are missing a customer in this or missing some parts of the assortment that we think we ought to be selling, we go back in on what we call a flash program and sell twice now in a pre-book season. And we are just starting to do that for the first time. Like everything else here we've changed the go-to market to be more resoponsive to go to market. So one of the opportunities we have going forward is to sell the pre-booking twice rather than once during that period of six month season.
Then we have installed a capacity to drop monthly when we see opportunities where we see product assortments that are missing in the market place or something that we can agree with the customer if they need we can go back and produce. So it is going to give us, as we go forward, a much more reponsive ability to deal with the market place here so we'll a pre-booking be able to sell it in twice and inbetween we'll be able to sell monthly for holes in the market. We've really never had that before.
