Levi's Vintage Clothing History

Levis Vintage Clothing

Levis Vintage clothing is part of the extended family of Levi's clothing. It is a celebration of the long history of Levis jeans.Levi's was founded by a man called Levi Strauss in the mid-1800s California; right in the midst of the California Gold Rush and the Old 'Wild' American West. Strauss emigrated to New York from Bavaria with his family around 1847. They left to join Strauss's brothers who had emigrated a few years earlier and had opened a dry goods store in New York city.

In 1853 Levi left New York and headed for San Francisco, California with the intention of opening a new branch of the family store in the West. He arrived around March or April of that year and opened his store, which he called Levi Strauss & Co. He sold similar products to that of his brother's store in New York; things like hardware, building materials, workwear and fabrics for clothing, tent and wagon repairs. He is, of course, also responsible for the creation of Vintage Levis Levi also found that the local markets were demanding a new style of pant that would be durable for working in and long lasting, the work pants at the time were unsuitable for either.

In 1870 Levi was approached by a customer of his looking for assistance with patenting and marketing his new invention, the metal rivet used for tightening the seams and pockets of pants. Levi saw the potential of such an invention and enthusiastically jumped at the opportunity to his new partner, Jacob David. Together, they were awarded the patents for their copper rivets. Soon afterwards Levi began producing his own jeans, using denim fabric from New Hamphire and his copper rivets to create a very durable and comfortable work pant that the settlers and pioneers of California had been waiting many years for. These jeans are now the foundation of the Levis Vintage clothing brand of clothing for which they provide the inspiration for their styles and construction process of the jeans.

Levi's Advert For Stonewash

Levis Laundretter Commercial

When Levi's first launched their stone-wash range of designs they created this television advert to go along with it. It features a well-toned man walking into a laundrette, pouring a sack of rocks into a washing machine and then putting all of his clothes in.

It was incredibly well received and is now held in very high regard as one of the greatest, most popular adverts ever created.
