Downtown LexingtonLexington, KY is located in central Kentucky's "Bluegrass Region" and is home to around 300,000 people. The city boasts the most horses per capita in the world and is known as the "Horse Capital of the World" - which is obvious as you fly into the Bluegrass Airport over rolling green farm after farm.

Despite the number or horses, Lexington isn't as "rural" as you would think. It is considered the 10th most educated city in the world with 22% of the residents having at least a Bachelor Degree. The city is multi-cultural and has a growing art/music scene.

With a stable economy and an unemployment rate of only 5.4% compared to the national average, Forbes magazine rated Lexington as one of the best places to live and start a business.

2010 World Equestrian Games

Horse eventing at the Kentucky Horse ParkThe 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are coming to Lexington! This exciting horse event is expected to bring up to 300,000 international visitors - effectively doubling the population of the city during the festival!

This is the first time that the WEG has been held in the US and massive preparations are already underway in Lexington to support this number of visitors.

The games will be held from Sept 25 to Oct 10, 2010 at the Kentucky Horse Park just a few miles outside of Lexington. If you plan to attend this event, make your Lexington KY travel preparations now - hotels are already booked up within one hour drive of the city!

If you have never been to Lexington and are planning a visit, this will be one of the most interesting times to come and enjoy the festivities as the city welcomes the world horse eventing community.

Lexington Kentucky Horse Park

Kentucky Horse ParkThe Lexington Kentucky Horse Park takes up 1200 beautiful acres and is only 20 minutes north of the city. The horse park will be the site of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.The WEG is going to historically be the largest equestrian eventing competition ever held in the US and will draw and estimated 300K+ visitors from all over the world!

To prepare for the WEG the park is constructing a huge new indoor arena and roads have been improved between the city and the horse park. Millions of dollars are being spent in preparation of this Fall's Equestrian Games.

The KY Horse Park is home to competitions (both for horses and dogs) throughout the year as well as the Southern Lights festival every Christmas season. In the Spring, the Rolex 3 Day Event is one of the highest stakes horse eventing competitions in the United States.

Camping is available in the horse park with permit or you can get transportation during the WEG from downtown Lexington to the site.
