Lexus Moves into Performance

Classically Lexus evokes images of stately, extremely well appointed saloons and sedans aimed at a market with plenty of cash and years. Lexus seems to be changing that by savagely reworking the IS-250's platform for, well, brutal speed. Enter the first of the new Lexus F-Sports series of performance cars.

Just Released In Japan!

The IS-F comes early to Japan

Originally expected to be released in Japan in December, the IS-F is currently on sale for 7.66 million yen (around USD $66,225).

It's going to be a long wait for the United States however, with the car not expected to land till February 2008 at the earliest.

What we know about the IS-F

Engine:
IS-F has a state of the art quad cam 5.0 L direct-injected V8 producing 417HP(311kW) at 6,600 rpm. Peak torque is 373 lb-ft (505 Nm) at 5,200 rpm. Additional features include a two-stage intake system, engine oil and transmission fluid coolers and an oil pump designed for high-speed cornering.

Body:
The IS-F features a four-passenger cabin with carbon-fiber panels, 19-inch BBS aluminium alloy wheels, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, a wider bodykit and lowered stance compared to the standard IS. It also features an unusual exhaust setup with two stacked dual exhaust pipes on both sides of the rear bar.

Brakes/Suspension:
The IS-F features lowered suspension over standard (1 inch lower) and Brembo brakes (stamped as Lexus).
