LGB Trains

LGB trains are great! LGB stands for "Lehmann Gross Bahn", which is German for "Lehmann's Big Railroad". LGB trains are big, as they are made in G scale, the largest of the commonly availble model train scales. LGB G scale trains are sturdy, and are better able to withstand rough handing by kids than other, smaller scales. Unlike some G-scale trains, LGB model trains are made for both indoor and outdoor use. This makes LBG trains especially popular for use in Garden Railroads, and both indoor and outdoor Christmas Trains.

LGB Christmas Train Set

Getting Started with LGB Trains

Starter sets are a good way to get started with LGB model trains. Starter sets generally have everything you need to begin running a train: engine, cars, track, power source and controller. As often times a starter set is something of a "loss leader" to get customers into the hobby, starter sets are usually an exceptional value with a price less than the sum of their contents if purchased separately.

LBG has nice budget-minded starter sets in both passenger-train and construction-train themes, which come with the LGB Stainz locomotive -- a great little LBG engine that usually comes with a smoke generator. Also, there are often exceptional prices for starter sets available on the site shown below.

LGB Track

LGB brass track is super-sturdy track that can be used both indoors and outdoors. The LGB track also has holes for nails or screws in some of the plastic cross-ties, to allow for easily securing the track to bridges, planking or other surfaces -- to help prevent animals, children and the elements from disrupting the function of your G scale layout.
