About the artist, Lilli Hopper
Hello :)
I am a mom of 2, both boys(2&5). I teach free art lessons 5 days a week for community kids (there's alot more than I expected right now, lol.)
I have been experimenting with different art media and styles, but to be honest I do love them all...and there are more to be discovered,I know :) I have no preferences, I create what creates itself..I just let things happen, unless it's something asked for in detail. I guess in a nutshell, I am me, and I love being myself more than trying to be like anyone else! What you see is driven by my life, love, children, everything that effects me as a person. Life changes chaotically here, so my art changes with it. At least my designs won't grow stale...
I hope that you see my art as art, not a statement. If I mean to say something by doing it, I'll tell you. If there are no words, do *not* read into it, in short.
I love fantasy, so pet the dragons and have fun. :)
I love religion, all of them. Languages, scripts, picts...anything that involves/evolves with time. I may create many Pagan things, but you will find other styles, from any belief that strikes me as inspiration at that time. ...All things have value in my eyes. I mention this for those who may be put off a bit by some of my things in the future, so you know this is my art expedition, not my opinions you see created. If you'd like to just chat or ask about something specific, drop me a line..I usually answer with hours :)
Thank you for stopping by,
LHK
About custom work, commissions, sales, ideas and the like:
I accept commissions often, and am always open to them - they give me a challenge, to create something perfect for someone else. My prices depend very much on what materials, unique supplies, size, time allowed, and styles are asked for. I currently am trying to build a solid foundation of reputation, my main hopes to excel always in customer satisfaction, quality, reasonable rates, and punctuality. Any piece I create goes through stages of rendering, and if you wish I can send progress pics as I go. This gives you the option of redirecting its flow or adding /removing/changing its ultimate outcome - this makes your vision your own, and adds a real connection to the piece. I have had many in the past done this way, and the recipients are still pleased to this day.At this time, I am open for any style, any media, and most subjects. Please see the links in my profile to view some of the things I have online. I have thousands of pieces with me that are still unposted , due to the sheer number of them alone. However, if there's something you like and you are considering me as an artist for your project write me with a general idea..chances are, I have examples of it here already for you to judge my abilities by.
I am totally negotiable in pricing for now, as I realize how new I am to the community and I feel until one can demand high rates and it is common for this to be reasonable for that artist, one should start small and build through trust and proven customer satisfaction.
Please contact me if there's anything I can do for you, and I will make sure your experience is a pleasant one.
Sincerely,
Lilli H.K.
Oh My Freaking Fractals!
Found something unusually addictive and oh, so beautiful!
Check out the slide I have going here for my Flickr spot - I did these in 2 nights, I couldn't stop! First I made one garish 1 dimensional splat thing (it's not shown for obvious reasons...it sucked, and badly.) The next I kept, but it's not there either. Fact is, that one was blinding, and very...weird. I like it, but then, I am used to wild creations because of my 2 boys and their art :) The third was beautiful , and hence started my addiction. You see, I went from 1-3 simply because I am stubborn, and I wanted to make sure there was no possible way this art form would work for me before I'd throw in the towel. Persistance paid off, #3 being the start of a nice new passion..and I needed one. I haven't been able to afford gesso and canvas lately, so I was looking for a more on demand style of art that didn't require I spend anything until I knew someone wanted it. This art form has always had my heart, there's something truly pure about art as a result of mathematical algorithms - the same design cannot be duplicated, unless you save each parameter..I did not. I won't lie, I sure wanted to!
I want my art to stay original, just as if I painted it stroke by stroke with a real brush and paint or ink..CGI isn't quite that way, it's easy to save it and recreate it simply by reopening the file it was saved into. To keep them fresh and truly one of a kind, I didn't save any of the numbers, which I randomly kept poking in until something took my breath away. Hopefully this means that my art will sustain its' purity, and original uniqueness. Besides, I can always tweak colors and such independant from the fractal mode, as it's the shape defined by the numbers, not so much the cool filters you can find to mutate with..
What do you think, do they look like art to you, and should I keep creating these? As fun as it is, I'd rather not delve into a new menagerie of art istic forms if there's no talent for it or anyone who deems it as art in the first place. I, I cannot be truly subjective. Firstly, it's mine. :) Next is that I have seen way better , but then too, I have seen way worse. Both have sold to collectors, so I am assuming I may have either a shot at it or at least a nack for it.
Either way, I now have 3 fractal programs so far, and I would like to find more. Each one has different bases, and I could be happy playing with numbers forever if this is what it can do and then some.
Mandelbrots, Newtons, Julias, Plasmas...why hadn't any one ever told me math could be so fun!
Oh those regrettable mistakes..
Each day we all encounter something we were wrong about. Here's mine.
Today's mistake was that I have been having a blast with CGI art for months, but slaving over actual traditional art for my local booth at the antiques mall. Why? I thought only traditional, must buy tons of supplies "real" art is what sells. Guess what, honey? WRONG! Yup, if it's trendy enough to fit the newest craze, that couple of mind numbing hours spent in anxious irritation in PSP or Photoshop might be worth more than that huge oil painting that took 3 months to paint, and another 9 to dry. Why? It's something that likely can't be done by hand, and each artist has their own styles in it too, just as in the ol' fashioned way.Somehow I do find this very comforting..there are artists work whom I adore, and it *is* CGI. If anyone tells you it's not as hard, it's true in some ways, but the competition from upgrades in programs tp to making sure you have the latest downloads can get pretty feirce..traditional artists at least seem more apt to share about their ways and such. So, here for once and all, I hereby apologize for once having been taught and having believed that CGI wasn't as "real" or "true" as traditional art. In fact, sometimes the opposite is true, and now we know!Catch you tomorrow, I have a poster design in PSP just waiting for me!

This pic is in traditional media (ink on illustration board) but he's still too cute.Maybe I'll PSP him pink or fluffy....
Well, I keep falling off the blog horse, and now I just wonder.....
As it stands, I am blog-illiterate.
I am trying to overcome this dilemma, but man,oh man is it hard. Let me explain, and maybe you'll have an idea about it? Maybe? I hope? Lol...Okay, let's see - my art is most unique because (and I do believe this) I have extremeley painful arthritis. Yep, that's the seller, there. People in the past bought the paintings I hurt the most while creating.
For example, I had 2 large and 2 small for sale at the same time. Same subject matter, colors, style. 1 large and 1 small caused me unbelievable pain from the brush handle and how I have to hold the thing so I don't lose my grip or drop it (again). Guess which sold? If you truly do feel something when you paint, I firmly believe that it comes across to the "people on the outside looking in". The ones created with my own physical pain as part of the "creative flow" sold before the others.
In fact, they sold for the same price as the others, but these sold 4 months ago. The other, calm ,content, mostly pain free are still waiting up at the booth for a new home.
Crazy business we're in, is it not?
So...maybe I should call them *pain*tings?....(okay, that was cheesy)....

I don't mean to sound pushy. Fact is in real life I am the one who's always being funny and sarcastic...I guess that comes across in my writings, too. I don't believe I should try and type in a way I would never speak just to sound more...you know, professional or elite. I guess I am who I am, if I ever make it in life with my art it will be because I accept that of myself and someone else did too. If not, at least I didn't lose my soul for nothing! What's on your mind, let it out whatever it is, be your own open self!
