Deport the illegal killing gringo aliens from Afghanistan. We can't win that war and it is very expensive in money and lives lost on both sides.

- How to become socialy conservative in five minutes: watch an abortion performed on camera. If it wasn't for this one issue millions upon millions of so-called right-wingers would unite with the rest of the country on many issues, and it would be a stronger, better nation. The division on this one issue will only become worse, unfortunately.

- Watching an abortion on camera or even live wouldn't change my opinion about the right of a woman to choose what happens to her body, regardless of if the pregnancy resulted .by rape incest, or failure to use a contrceptive. Ask a woman. If you as a man do not want abortions do not have any. What about all the sperm that are aborted without the chance to meet up with an egg ? Those lives lost are thousands of times more numerious than "unborn babies."

- The founders never intended a Theocracy. They were in fact forming a country that was neither theocratic (Example:Iran,) nor corporatist (what the ORIGINAL tea party was against - The merger of the power of Queen Elizabeth I's Britain and the East India Tea Co.)
The fear of some midwestern states of winding up under Sharia law is just as preposterous as the possibility (or advisability) of our winding up under Judeo-Christian "Law," for one reason: because our Constitution FORBIDS it - remember that

- Your closing is especially prescient in this day and age. Since the Kennedy/Nixon race the two major parties have increasingly relied on identity and tribal politics to win elections, meaning more and more people are not voting FOR something but rather AGAINST something.
With each passing election both parties have played a game of brinksmanship to the point where now with Republicans in the minority position have come out with truly bizarre, wildly divergent from reality, positions to attack the Democratic party with. I fully expect that the next time the Democratic party finds itself in a minority position they'll push the envelope one step further, too.
Politics and a functioning government isn't a football game. The goal should never be to ensure the other side loses but to find the best solution agreeable to the most amount of people that still protects the rights of those who disagree with the majority opinion.

- I stumbled on this site while trying to figure out if my son and daughter in law are truly, truly, liberal. What I have found out instead was that most people are neither, I consider myself moderate, but in fact if tests are accurate, I would have to say I am conservative. I am indeed a Republican that is not impressed with the choices we have at this time. But if I were a Democrat I would feel the same way. My thinking on the whole thing is that everything is controlled by the need for power and the love of money. There are too many people in the political arena that have never worked in the private sector so unfortunately they have no understanding of how ordinary people actually live and survive. Most do not understand that couples that want to have children, have them out of wed lock in order to have the government pay for them, then schedule weddings around tax refund time, so they can use their refund checks for weddings and honeymoons. I work for a financial institution and income tax season is a very sore subject at work, the average check for a single mom or single dad is 5000. These people do not pay in this kind of money so where is the money coming from???? I have to pay 500 a month for health insurance, not to mention a big deductible, but so many of these same people have a 'get in quick, leave for nothing' card. This is why I am conservative, I want to work and control my own life.
I wish we could have leaders that understood this, but there is no way they do because the ones that want us to 'live green' do not live green! They jet from one corner of the globe to another, they create non-sense laws that make them feel they are helping the less fortunate.
I am not fooled by this push to tax the rich, does anyone have any idea how much much some of the politician are making? These new so called changes will not tax these rich because there will be too many loop holes and exemptions or they just won't pay their taxes until someone points it out when they are running for a higher position.
I don't care what your sexual orientation is, I don't even care if you choose to kill your unborn child, I just don't want to have to pay for it.
I don't care if you don't want a gun in your home, just leave mine alone. "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns".
I can't understand why so many people were more excited over the fact that "America has change" because we voted in a white/black man for president. Don't vote the color, vote the qualifications!
This is a FREE NATION! If I want to vote Democrat even though I am Republican, I am voting Democrat! My husband considers himself a Conservative Democrat, he has not voted Democrat since the 70's.
My parents were stance Democrats, I tho't my Daddy would have a heart attack when at 18 I registered as a Republican, but what can I say, he raised to make up my own mind and be independent and stand for what I believe, so that is what I did and what I continue to do.

- Children born in wedlock also get subsidized by the government by way of tax deductions and other free services, including education. Don't worry about some $5,000 check that people get that you think do not deserve it. It is a much bigger problem that thousands of people earn millions/year and only have to pay 15% like candidate Romney.

- The behaviour and attitudes of neither the "liberals" nor the "conservatives" of the modern US bear much resemblance to what those political movements traditionally stand for; and it only makes things worse that one of these labels has become attached to the Democratic Party and the other to the Republican Party.
I'm a somewhat dispassionate observer of American politics because as a permanent resident I can't vote, but incline towards the Democrats, even if they are taking a devilishly long time to figure out that Republicans have no interest in compromising on anything whatsoever and need to get stuffed.
Republicans talk a good game and like to portray themselves as competent, sensible managers and their opposite numbers as naive, childish idealists, but very few of their positions actually stand up to scrutiny.
"Conservative" bloggers also have the annoying habit of avoiding honest debate by claiming that their arguments cannot possibly be refuted, then censoring you when you do.

I refuse to vote next term because of the unnecessary mess I was taken through over the past 4-5 years. People have rights that should be respected regardless of what they stand for that will not hurt or harm others or themselves. Doing things the traditional way when an unexpected thing happen in your life causes STRESS and stress kills. NO thanks...

Would recommend that folks do their own research about what is happening both with OWS as well as with this global crisis we're in by reading some Gerald Celente, who gives his expert opinion about our current economic condition. Minus the hate-filled rhetoric. Hope Beck can sleep at night earning his dollar through hate and fearmongering.

- The obstructionism continues in Washington, and what is the point? The obstructionists are only making themselves look bad; no, worse. All they've done since 2010 is say no, no, no. Why? Are they that afraid of a second term African American President? Really? That makes me ashamed of being an American. I'm embarrassed. This is not the Country I thought I lived in.
Previous contentious administrations did not inspire confidence, but I don't remember people hating each other like they do now. It's scary. My confidence in this Country is dwindling fast. As long as the fighting continues in Washington, no one is benefitting; we just go on suffering.
Why are you obstructionists being so stubborn? What's the problem? What's the point? Do you have no heart for anyone but yourselves? Really? Wow? I know that talking to you would be a waste of time for both of us, so the only thing left to do, in order to save ourselves, is to fight. I see revolution coming. Don't laugh, think about it. Demonstrations are going on all over the place; it reminds me of the sixties. We are experiencing turbulent times. I hope we come through it. And I wish I were more hopeful.
Isn't that sad?

- The definitions of "liberal v conservative" by almost all posters here, and even the author of the site, prove without a doubt, that almost NO American who announces one of these orientations has the slightest idea of its true formal definition (much like those of Fascism, or of Socialism.) Apparently for much of America today, fact-free media repetition intended to vilify or lionize and even redefine various views, obviously for profit, "defines" these terms; rather than the accepted norms of language.

- This is a great debate page and I really enjoyed it. I appreciated that you didn't just fall into the typical liberal vs. conservative divide but acknowledged the Libertarian standpoint, which is personally my own as well. And it can be tough when it seems like neither of our major political parties wants to listen to a socially liberal/fiscally conservative point of view. They end up alienating a lot of voters like myself that way.

Instead of name-calling and demonizing each other we all need to listen and be respectful of each side's point of view. - At this point in time and in our society, I don't think humans are capable of knowing the REAL truth. Indeed we are intelligent creatures but honestly; only God knows what is true. Some things that are blown out of proportion here on earth may not even have that much of a significance to God. I think it's ridiculous to go into the different sides. Labels are not needed. Every person has their own opinion. That my friends is the keyword: OPINION. I personally can't even listen to the global warming argument any longer. You would think science would give us a straight up RIGHT answer but it doesn't. Half the SCIENTISTS say its true and half the SCIENTISTS say its not. So is science even that reliable? We're constantly hearing of these new scientific discoveries that are disputing old ones. To wrap it up: I have my morals, my values, my faith, and my opinions. You have yours. Sharing everyones' differences doesn't do much because it's hard to change a person's opinion. This website is good for research purposes, finding the stereotypical definition of a certain label, or just VIEWING the numerous thoughts that are out there. We are so tiny compared to this universe. There is something greater than us mere human beings.

Limited government, personal responsibility, low taxes, follow the constitution.I do not believe the government should tell us what to put in our own bodies, who to sleep with, where to go to church or who we worship. Also don't believe they should try to legislate morality. Don't believe in lobbyism, do believe in the free market and that it should be allowed to do its job. I think both parties have lost their way. - I am doing my best to speak out to the American people to vote for the conservative party in 2010. Plus, I am trying to get the diehard Democrats to see Obama for the so-called leader he really is before it is too late to take back our country in 2010. I am sure you have taken notice to the fact that the country is fed up with all the frivolous spending and Obama's hidden agenda and are ready to fight back. I praise the fact that there are some good people in the world like you to help protect us from the corruption. I sincerely hope the Tea Party Express can help us in accomplishing this goal before the next election in 2010. If we do not take back control now, I am not sure our country will ever recover. I beg you to continue fighting for us regarding the health care reform bill, cap and trade bill and the other damaging bill still yet to come prior to the election (immigration reform must also be stopped to maintain any ounce of safety in our country and prevent the illegal immigrants from obtaining American rights since they came to our country without the proper authorization-not to mention this bill would likely improve his odds of maintaining control over our country). Dick Morris mentioned in his book "Catastrophe" that Obama will likely try to inflate the census totals in 2010 to help him gain a better chance of keeping the majority control in Congress. He must be stopped because I have never seen our political arena in more scary times as I have seen them right now. I have stood behind the Republicans ever since I could vote and do not plan to give up on the party without a fight.
I continue to have faith in the Lord and know he will come through for all his people. I would never envision it any other way in today's depressing times. In an ideal world, we would have a Democrat President and a Republican President so both parties could follow the people who they felt would do a better job representing them. Of course, the Democrats would have to take the full responsibility for their share of the debt in the world since the Republicans are the more conservative group. I could never see the Republican Party performing the type of evil acts on the American people that the current administration is doing to us. They are letting us all down in so many ways and it is really sad. Personally, with all the events taking place in today's time I would not be surprised if God is coming for us soon. I just do not think it is right for the Democrats to put this much tax burden on the American people for many years to come. I think most of the damage will be done by the time we are hopefully able to gain control back. I can only hope we are able to undo some of the terrible bills they have managed to pass along the way. I have never seen a group be against the bi-partisan agenda in all the years I have been alive. If all else fails, I know some people are even hopeful that one day Texas can secede as a separate republic from the other states. I am proud to be a Texas Republican!
It is clear that Satan is under attack regarding the current political agenda in our world today. How else can you explain the demented minds of those in Congress and the White House? Under Obama's current hidden agenda, he is stopping at nothing to pass all these bills that include frivolous spending and, I am starting to think he enjoys making the American people swarm and beg for mercy. He is turning our country into a huge mockery and everyone needs to wake up before it is too late. I guarantee you over time the health care reform bill and the cap and trade bill will both only result in nothing but trillions of taxpayer dollars being wasted and nothing else will be gained. The most frightening thing is that all the diehard Democrats are oblivious under Obama's control and I am puzzled by the fact that they can stand and support someone who continues to threaten our country and hire these prior criminals to represent what we stand for in America. America will never be the same after the current administration has done all the damage to us. I pray more people take a stand against all of them in the 2010 elections and vote for the conservative smart party rather than this corrupted party with a hidden agenda only out to destroy all of us and our country if they truly care. There is plenty of evidence in the world today via books, Fox News and the other media sources available to anyone. Let's stand united with each other and force them to stop all the frivolous spending before we raise the bar even higher on our deplorable debt. God Bless Our Nation and pray God helps us take on the enemy before we lose some of our freedom. I believe we all want to live in a control-free environment, so no one should back the Democrat Party any longer. If they want every hard earned cent to go toward failed bills and have the Government control every aspect of their life, then they need to please reconsider their priorities.
I hope you all have a happy and prosperous new year. I praise God to the Republican Party for fighting for the American people (unlike the sorry Democrats) and for listening to us. Most of all, I feel sorry for all the future generations who will be paying the price for all the corruption in the world right now. It is like they do not care about the future of their children and grandchildren. Sad! I continue to pray everyday that we get our country back on track so we can all live with a better piece of mind in today's struggling times.

- I thank God, that he has placed me on this earth to cancel out your vote. You are obviously parnoid, and can only regurgitate the tripe put out by ideologues, such as Rush "Oxycotin" Limbaugh. Please, we had eight years, of destructive and devisive Republican policies. It is time to bring back order and civility, to our democracy. The Republicans destroyed the economy, decimated the budget surplus, and led us into two wars, so please don't talk to me about the country going to hell in a handbasket. The Republicans did a fine job of that, for the last eight years. It is hard to maintain a civil tone when I read tripe like this.
Hidden agenda, that was what President Bush had, when he went into Afghanistan, the real agenda was Iraq. Not caring for the future of our children, then why did the Bush administration squander the budget surplus he inherited, when he took office and leave the U.S. with a 1.3 trillion deficit? Another one of your quotes..." befiore we lose some of our freedom..." The Bush administration took away more of America's freedoms, than any other President, in history. Son, I will pray for you and all the other misguided souls who share your uninformed beliefs.

- Nice debate! The liberal & conservative sides have both good arguments and it is pretty difficult to decide which is better than the other. It is important for a person to consider a few things before deciding which side to go for.
Rated 5* Hope you could visit my lenses as well. Thanks

- Public schools are a place we teach shame of our founding fathers. This helps mold the minds of our future voting generation. Public schools have become Democratic Head Quarters. As Regan once said, Socialism cannot take root and thrive using the name socialism. This is why the name was changed to Liberalism. The Liberal will count the body bags of US soldiers who CHOSE to fight, but they will never count the 1 million abortions. Selective outrage and shame is the fuel a weak nation needs, to implement this so-called change.

- I would take it then that you view one thing as moral for you but something the opposite may be just as moral for someone else?
Are morals totally subjective for every individual?
Are there such things as absolute right and wrong or are values negotiable?

- I quite often hear liberals being regarded as lacking a moral compass, I have a strong moral compass when it comes to myself and only myself. For when I begin to feel that I know better how another person should live their life, even better than they themselves know... Then I have crossed over into territory that is not mine.
Rather I strive to respect all views, all religions, all beliefs, indeed all people... as long as they do not pose a threat directly to myself or my loved ones I am more than willing to live and let live.

- It is difficult to have a forum for people to express (political) ideoligies without it becoming hostile due to the nature of the passion. I like your lens. It is the first I've come upon - I didn't know these existed. What a nice example of one to fall upon.

- thanks for a hosting a great site where both sides can be heard. it's important to know how "the other half" thinks.
some of it is quite surprising to me. for instance, the idea (apparently from Ann Coalter) that "rich Wall St bankers" are somehow associated with Democrats. Republicans are the "money party." since the 1970s, they've also been the "religion party"; they performed a sleight-of-hand trick to convince blue-collar classes that Republicans have their backs by claiming to speak for God.
the Democratic party has always been the party of the working people. that "socialist" (oooh) labor movement is what gave capitalists their forty-hour work week.
deficit? Reagan ran it into the trillions, whereas Clinton gave us a surplus.
freedom? Bush illegally wiretapped Americans and held detainees for years without trial.
as far as "right and wrong," i'm not a Christian... I tend to believe that those who have a strong moral compass of their own do not need organized religion

- CONSERVATIVES - believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense. Believe the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals. Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.
LIBERALS - believe in governmental action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all, and that it is the duty of the State to alleviate social ills and to protect civil liberties and individual and human rights. Believe the role of the government should be to guarantee that no one is in need. Believe that people are basically good.
Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve people's problems.

- UNIVERSAL HAPPINESS
With government as it's largest client, it's not surprising that medical costs hyper-inflate along with all other government sponsored industries, e.g., education. What is surprising is that many think that doctors, hospitals, nurses, surgeries, and medicine will be cheaper if we pay for doctors, hospitals, nurses, surgeries, medicine, AND government agents to "oversee" it all.
"Alice in Medical Care"
-- Dr. Thomas Sowell

"
I FEEL YOUR PAIN. NOT THEIRS. YOURS.
God save us from liberal "empathy." ... For example, Judge Sotomayor apparently "empathized" more with New Haven, Conn., government officials than with white and Hispanic firefighters who were denied promotions by the city on the basis of their race. ... Let's hope she's as empathetic to New Haven residents who die in fires fought by inferior firefighters ...
"Empathy," in Liberalspeak, is nothing but raw political power.

- Did any of you see clips of grown women or teenage girls gang beat another grown woman or teenage girl on you tube? That's one example. Our nation is on moral decline and it just seems that being conservative takes a lot of heat these days. It's hard to lean towards the teachings of Christ or be a "bit" religious with an opinion and not be branded a stupid conservative or self righteous. Sarah Palin is the greatest present example of a ridiculed conservative. David Letterman and Bill Maher just can't stand what she stands for.
Just what is wrong with including your religious beliefs into anything government? I read an article by Pat Boone called "Obama Sounds like President Without a Country" and I read it enough times to realize its true message and I agree with him.
Yes, crucify me now, but I prefer to live in a country that proudly admits to being a Christian country as opposed to Obama's statement that "We are no longer a Christian Nation". Frankly, I disagree.

- A good nation is one that strives for a healthy, educated, and employed people. So, thinking about God, one could think that God made the Universe, the Planet and Nature for ALL ALIVE DURING A TIME. So perhaps that is where the difference between Liberals and Conservatives lies. It is not wealth REDISTRIBUTION, that is a mantra for the conservatives to stir the masses.
Have you ever been to a "private beach"? That is the point. Did you notice that Dick Cheney shot that fellow in a "private hunting reserve". Do you know the size of the King's Ranch in Texas? Oh Well, some of my friends are conservaties and they are still my friends. This is America, see you on 5 Nov 2008.

- Hi I'm a liberal conservative and a conservative liberal. I hope that makes sense to someone. I so much believe in teach a man to fish, empower him and let him get on with his life without too much interference from the state.
Basically we need to approach others with respect, tolerance and a sense of higher purpose.
In the US having seen the corruption in Washington its time for the Democrats. I believe they have stronger sense of empowering and uniting everyone.
Shame the Republicans did not have McCain 8 years ago when they stole it from the Democrats.
Its a big world out there the world needs the US to have a leader who has presence and support out there. Obama is that man. So that makes me a liberal conservative Democrat!

- I am conservative on having an official language. No society has ever survived without a common language. I believe that making marriage for gays and lesbians is mocking God. Marriage is an institution created by God, not the government. The government needs to come up with their own permanent personal relationship covenants without messing around. I am tired of poor people not having school choice. I send my kids to private school and I pay for scholarships for poor kids to go to private school. Our public schools stink and there is no relief in site. (I don't care for me, I just more poor people had a choice like I do with School Vouchers for low income people). I believe in protected borders. No society has ever survived without strong borders. The camels back is going to break and it's going to be worse for the have-nots when our health care facilities and school are in a full overload-breakdown mode.

- Maximum individual freedom? Liberals pass some of the most restrictive laws on the books! That's why you can't develop your property or own guns in some states, and you still get taxed out the wazoo for the privilege of having your rights taken away.

- I have a hard time placing myself into a single category. I like the ideals of both philosophies but neither are practical in the real world. A limited government that doesn't stick its nose in everything and tax us to death would be great, but in the real world limiting government just leads to consolidating power and the results are often scary. On the other hand a socialist ideal of shared wealth and communal living also seems like a great utopia to live in. But as we've seen many times that this results in a small dominating class and people spread around a very limited amount of wealth and the government controls everything.
In the real world we need to mix both, we need champions of the free market and we need bleeding hearts who want to save the world. It's the ying and yang that holds us together. I usually vote democratic because I feel my place in the world is to help other people. But Im glad my father votes republican because people also need to learn to help themselves.
