Libraries - The Last Bastion of Culture and Democracy

Do you know which institution in your town or city is probably the most valuable, in the long run, if you use it?

It's the library.

I know the firehouse is great in an emergency - no argument there. And so are the hospital and the police station. And the school is useful for, well, maybe it's not as useful as you think.

But the library is there strictly for benefit. There are no tests, no operations and casts, no fires, and not man arrests, either, I'll bet. Not even a parking ticket (usually). The worst you'll get is an overdue fine, (and that's no one's fault but your own!)

Librarians - The Unsung Heros of Your Town

Do you have any idea of how much librarians usually fight for your rights to learn and experience new knowledge? Go a clue as to how many great books might have been banned if it weren't for the good work of librarians?

Next time you look at your librarian, try to look beyond the possible nerdiness and try to see someone who would have fought along with Founding Fathers of the American Revolution. And I'm not kidding. Think your local school superintendant would have been there? Nah, that bean-counter would have been a Tory!

Nah, I'm neither a punk nor a Sid Vicious fan. I just like the name. (more)
