My life as a well loved Morkie

Ranked #7,271 in Pets & Animals, #183,118 overall

Hi my name is Cooper

I am a 2 year old male Morkie, which is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Maltese dog.

My mom just joined Squidoo and is having fun making some lenses, so I thought I would help her out in making one about me.

Mom and dad lost their dog Andy, an 11 year old golden retriever to a heart problem and they were so sad.

They couldn't take the emptiness in the house , so after a few months they decided to look for another dog. Mom wanted a small dog this time and when she saw me, she knew instantly I was the one. They still think about Andy a lot and often say am just like him in a smaller body. He must have been a really special dog.

The first week at home

baby morkie puppyThe first week was rough for all of us. I was of course missing my birth mom and my brothers and sisters, especially at night. I was being crate trained and I woke the whole house up crying the first two nights, several times too.

I had to pee as soon as I came out of my crate and mom trained me but I wasn't too good at getting the right idea, so I made lot's of messes.
Still, they loved me, and didn't get angry at me.
Now I am older I don't need to sleep in my crate, I finally weaseled my way into mom and dad's big comfy bed :)

Aahhhhhhhh, this is the life!

My first Halloween

morkieHere I am at 2 months old. Tiny huh?
Mom was told I would grow to 6lbs, I am now 15lbs, but she loves me all the same :)
To be honest I think they were a bit worried about stepping on me when I was so small.
I was born September 1st, so this photo was my first Halloween.
I think I slept through all the kids coming, I wasn't barking yet, but now I do.
I had on a little scarf that the vet gave me when I went for my shots.

My very first winter

morkieI think this photo was taken the first time I saw the snow. It wasn't much that day but I knew right away I could have some fun with this stuff.
Mom had knit me a little sweater , a turtle neck. If you like to knit, you can find some links below here to free knitting patterns for your dog.
We live in Canada and winter get's very cold here, so she put another coat over the top of my knit sweater so it wouldn't get all wet. It was so nice and comfy :)
I could use some boots for all the snow we get here, because the ice sticks in my paws and it hurts.

This is so cool. Knit a black hoody for your dog with a skull design on it. For small to larger dogs.

For beginners, knit this fuzzy pet pillow.
Felted dog collar
Knit and felt a cute collar for your dog.
Pet blanket, easy peasy
This is a lovely idea. Knit an easy blanket for an animal in a shelter, or for your own pet. This is done in a basic garter stitch, so it's great for beginners.

Lost my baby teeth

morkie missing teethHey, do you wanna know why my teeth are so clean and white?
I eat apples (not the whole thing, I am too small), and I LOVE Fennel (Anise), it cleans my breath and I get a piece after my breakfast and after my dinner. Soooooo good !!!!

I have the best cook for a dad too, he boils up ground meat or chicken for me and mixes it with the dry dog food.
I love all kinds of meat, and fish too.

I Love My Toys

bone

Don't you think this is a nice side view of me?

Yes, I have a curly tail, that is the Maltese in me.

As you can see in this photo I have one of my favourite toy, my Kong bone.

I also love soft toys but they seem to disappear after a while.

My most favourite toy to play with is my blankie. Mom cut some for me from polar fleece and she ties a knot in the middle so we can play tug of war games.

My Mom Grooms me at home

MorkieMom was a hairstylist years ago but she never cut a dogs hair until I arrived.

She decided to buy a kit with a DVD and so for three years now she has groomed me. She leaves my nail cutting up to my dad, grooming a dog as often as I need it is not an easy task.

First I get a nice warm shower, then she fluffs me up with the blow dryer and brush. Off we go to the basement where a table is set up. I have my own grooming studio down there. I don't really like it, find it quite boring but I feel so much better when it's done, and I get a nice treat.

I always get a lot of compliments on my hair cut and that makes mom feel proud.

Grooming Your Dog at Home

This is the Wahl grooming kit that mom has been using now for 3 years. It comes with a DVD giving you instructions on how to trim your dog. She also uses the scissors a lot, around my face.
It is used a lot and never had a problem, the best part is all the money saved from grooming bills, a huge bonus.
