Life Changing Resolutions You Can Really Keep
What Our Resolutions Symbolize
Keeping your new year's resolutions is not always the easiest thing to do, especially when we don't acknowledge what our resolutions really symbolize in our lives. When you read 3 Life Changing Resolutions For The New Year, you will see things a little clearer. The resolutions that we typically make at the end of the year usually center around things in our lives that we're not proud of, or are not happy with the way they turned out. We want to make the necessary changes and adjustments, but do we really envision ourselves as the person that those changes would make us into? Recently CIGNA heath care commissioned a national study in order to learn more about what Americans attitudes are when it comes to New Year's resolutions regarding their personal health. This is what Cigna found:

Cigna indicated they weren't surprised to find that topping the list of resolutions were

* Quitting Smoking (11%).

With major issues, such as health, finances, personal relationships, employment and more, there are often underlying currents that act as barriers to making necessary changes. Nothing is EVER what it seems in life. Whether you struggle with overweight, anger issues, or anything else, the problem is usually symptomatic of something else. So that 3rd cupcake is more than that to the overweight woman, and lashing out in anger is about more than being cutoff in traffic to the enraged man. In fact, only 25% of people surveyed reported being very successful at keeping their resolutions. What's Really Important In Your Life?
While it may be easier to say than to do, it's time to stop thinking about changing and just change. If you have started to finally give some thought to what certain changes actually symbolize in your life, you are on your way to making needed changes. Realizing what the changes you desire actually represent in your life, helps you put into perspective just how important these changes actually are. This is a huge step in the right direction.
Action Is Needed To Change
One important thing to know about change is that it requires action. I'm not speaking about the action involved in the actual ceasing the problem, I'm speaking about the action involved in the solution. For example:
Most people who want to QUIT smoking try all kinds of quit smoking products, not to mention various methods (no matter how eccentric) that they believe will free them from nicotine. While a few of those people may recognize the need to REPLACE their bad smoking habit with a good or healthy habit, most simply try and quit and do nothing to fill the void that not smoking creates. The saying, change begets change is true. In order to change FROM a bad behavior, it's imperative that you change TO a good one. If not, the result will always result in failure. This holds true for losing weight, for trying to quit smoking, vowing to stop drinking caffeine, and whatever else your problem or challenge happens to be.

Since practice makes perfect, the best way for you to become a writer is to write. And what better time to be starting your online writing career than to be starting at the New Year? If you are even remotely interested in writing online for pay and creating a residual income, there is an important search engine optimization (SEO) concept to understand right away. Learn this, even if you don't know what the term SEO even means yet (though I'm sure you've heard it!) What you need to know is this:
How To Get ORGANIC Traffic
Organic traffic is one of the best things that you could possibly have going for you on the internet. Lots and lots of organic traffic is one crucial half of the make money equation. The other is monetizing your landing pages. The landing pages are the articles for whatever website you write for. You may be writing:
There may be other writing sites that you write for besides these. Regardless of what kind of article writing that you do, you want to get people (aka: Traffic) to read your writing. Organic traffic is not typing a url address (http::www.blahblahblah) into a web browser. It is not simply stumbling upon something by sheer accident, and clicking on a link on someone's page. That kind of traffic is Direct Traffic. While it's nice to get direct traffic via your web address and referral traffic from linking, BUT that is not the kind of traffic that is most effective when it comes to increasing your page rank or ultimately, your income. Organic traffic means people are ACTIVELY searching for what you are writing about. When they use key phrases to do this searching in Google, Yahoo, or some other search engine, it turns up results, and ideally, YOUR PAGE is among them.
Now here's where the organic traffic really comes in. The writing websites listed above are all popular and reputable enough to get the pages you write for them into the search engines quickly (sometimes within hours). But being indexed in the search engines (added to them) doesn't mean your page(s) will show up in the higest results, typically the first three to four entries at the top. The way you use your keywords help to accomplish this purpose. But here's the really important point. You can figure out what string of key word phrases will bring your articles up in the search results, then, make a point of REGULARLY providing those keywords to readers, so they can use them to search for you. If they constantly land on your pages via this method, this will build your organic traffic.
Now you see why I have cited some of my own key phrases here, instead of a link to the material. Typing the bolded phrases into the Google Search Box will result in a link to the information described below the keyword terms. The link will be found in the first, second and/or third Google entries at the top of the page (You'll actually see the complete title of the information you're searching for). All these key word phrases of mine have landed me in Google's top two or three positions in the search engines with many of my articles. If you're a new, frustrated, or even seasoned writer, you can benefit from the different concepts and online writing strategies that you find in my articles and blogs.

As you may remember from the Cigna health New Year's resolution survey at the beginning of this material, many are concerned with losing weight, quitting smoking and getting in better health (which spells cutting caffeine for a lot of people). The barriers to them being able to adequately fulfill these life changing resolutions are as many and diverse as there are people battling these problems. As was mentioned, it's not unusual to find yourself making the same resolutions year, after year, after year.While the information you find here may not provide you with the answers you want, it may help get you to ask the right questions

- What is your main motivation for wanting to quit smoking?
- What is your main motivation for wanting to give up caffeine?
- What is your main motivation for wanting to get in better overall health?
- Are you currently plagued by health issues related to any or all of these life changing issues?
- Are you regularly jeopardizing the health and welfare of those that you love, as a direct or indirect cause of the issue?

About Losing Weight
Think about how much time, money, energy and effort you're willing to put into getting the necessary help to make the necessary changes. The word necessary is emphasized because it is important to NOT overdo things. If losing 20 pounds would make you look fabulous, but keep you on edge, why not strive to lose 10 pounds and settle for looking AND feeling great instead?
PROBLEM: First determine if your weight issues are mostly related to health issues and/or food issues. Many people who are overweight can't always attribute it to overeating. If yours is an eating issue, then you will have to consider your choices and determine what is MOST practical for YOU!
SOLUTIONS: Answers to your specific weight issue could range from choosing a good healthy diet to go on, drinking protein or nutrient drinks as a meal replacement, or even cutting certain things from your diet altogether. Then again, you may just need to start eating smaller portions, and get out and walk on a regular basis. Remember also, how valuable a role that plain old H2O plays in your digestion and overall health. Make sure your body gets plenty of water, no matter what type of diet or exercise plan you're on. (Be sure to always consult your doctor before starting or stopping any activities that may conflict with any existing health concerns)

Whatever the extent of your smoking habit, you didn't develop it overnight, so don't be so down on yourself if you can't shake it overnight!
PROBLEM: Nicotine is a drug and an addictive, just as heroin or cocaine. Over a period of time, a person starts to become physically as well as emotionally dependent on nicotine.
SOLUTION:: A number of studies have concluded that smokers have to deal with not only the physical but the mental (psychological) dependence if they want to quit for good.
The American Cancer Society quotes the Surgeon General in saying: "Smoking cessation (stopping smoking) represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives."
Whatever you select as a solution or method of treatment (there are some things below), stick to it and take things one day at a time. Be alert to situations that generally cause you to want to light up. That includes trying to avoid stressful situations that typically trigger the urge for a cigarette.
About Caffeine
There are plenty of brands of coffee on the market, and many of them make decaffeinated coffee. So why is caffeine still one of the major reasons heavy coffee drinkers want to quit? While many simply don't like the decaf alternative, some have found that switching to decaffeinated coffee is not the answer. A New York Times article discussed a recent Consumer Report. It showed that there is a "wide variability in caffeine levels in both decaffeinated and caffeinated coffees. Notably, even the caffeinated coffees purchased at the chains varied widely in terms of caffeine content, ranging from just 58 milligrams all the way up to 281 milligrams."
PROBLEM: In an attempt to cut down on caffeine, coffee drinkers who consume multiple cups of decaf every day are probably getting more caffeine than they realize.
SOLUTION: Perhaps a switch to drinking tea may be a welcome change. Drinking tea is said to be healthier than drinking coffee and there are many more choices in natural and caffeine free blends of tea.

NOTE: When it comes to overeating, smoking and even excessive caffeine, stress can play a large role and be a big part of the problem. It is a leading cause of a multitude of sins (or vices, to put it nicely). Studies show that when people work on and maintain good personal relationships with the people they care about, not only is their stress level lower, but they eat less "comfort" food, smoke less and drink less coffee.

Friendship / Homeownership / Relationship
My personal life changing resolutions that I am making this year are:1) Try to mend a broken friendship
2) Help my family buy a house
3) Find a mate and perspective husband
As mentioned earlier, I struggled long and hard with myself over whether or not to talk about my own personal resolutions and the things that are really in my heart, but I figured, since I'm asking for my readers to comment and share their personal experiences, it's only fitting that I do the same.
- The bottom line is this: Once upon a time, I had two very best friends in my life. One I'd known longer than the other, but both of them were just as dear to me. The article I wrote related to this situation, reveals that one of those * friendships actually turned out to be a toxic relationship Early 2009, I lost my other best friend, a friendship I don't consider toxic, just broken. One of my resolutions for this new year is to try (once again) to mend this friendship. I'll be providing more information on the specifics, as well as the status.
- I have a strong desire to help my family purchase a new home, so I've started compiling information, starting with the article I wrote discussing * * first time home ownership and the possibility of receiving government funding. Me and my family have decided to take a proactive approach to achieving the American Dream, even under less than ideal circumstances.
- Last, but by no means least on my list of life changing resolutions is my intent to find the right mate. I have had my head buried in cyberspace for the last year, and prior to that, I was drowning in stress and worry. I believe I am finally ready to get back out into the real world and do some more living. I have a ton of things on my "bucket list" (modern day wish list) to get done before I depart this earth. I'd love to share some of those things with someone, so I'm on the lookout, if not the prowl!
