Life Extension - Living to be 100

Health has always been an important part of my life and I have been reading a lot about Centenarians lately. I wanted to see if they have anything in common and they do. I have included some of the tips for living longer on this page.

One of the most important thing that I learned is this...

Enjoy your life and live it to the fullest. Have fun and don't take things so seriously. People who live long lives surround themselves with positive people and have a positive attitude. They have a life purpose. Often they have many children and grandchildren or many pets.

They have also over the years been very active and ate a healthy diet. Here are some of the tips that I learned.

10 Tips to living a longer life.

  1. Be active everyday. This could mean walking for 30 minutes or swimming or light weight lifting. Just get that body moving!
  2. Laugh Often! It is true that laughter heals the soul. Be sure to lighten up and have fun. Ad humor in your life when ever possible. Hang out with the kids and watch silly movies. Laugh until you cry.
  3. Ad more stress relievers such as meditation or yoga. Don't want to meditate or do yoga? Then have more sex. Sex is a great stress reducer and is good for overall well-being. Also be sure to get and give lots of hugs.
  4. Eat lots of fruits and veggies and cut out the fast food. Go for 5 servings a day.
  5. Get a Pet. It's true that people who have a pets tend to get sick less and live longer. It could be because it gives us a purpose or it ads fun and excitement to our lives.
  6. Don't smoke or quit smoking. Smoking puts you at a higher risk of cancer or heart disease
  7. Keep you brain sharp by reading often, or doing puzzles. The more you use your brain the sharper it will be.
  8. Take an omega 3 tablet every day. Omega 3's lowers the risk of heart attack and stroke and also lowers your blood pressure.
  9. Watch your weight. Studies have shown that people who are over weight have a higher risk of some cancers including heart disease, breast cancer and colon cancer.
  10. Eat Dark Chocolate! Chocolate has antioxidants that protect your body from aging.

What is a Cenenarian?

A centenarian is a person who has attained the age of 100 years or more. Because current average life expectancies across the world are less than 100, the term is invariably associated with longevity. Much rarer, a supercentenarian is a person who has lived to the age of 110 or more, something only achieved by about one in a thousand centenarians. Even rarer yet is a person who has lived to 115 years old; only 1 in 50,000 centenarians make it to this age.
