Finished reading Deathly Hallows? What's a Harry Potter fan to do next?
Ranked #1,584 in Arts , #33,281 overall
Finishing the book doesn't mean you have to say goodbye to Harry!
Wotcher! I'm a huge fan of the Harry Potter series, and now that I've zoomed through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, I'm a little sad that there won't be a Year 8 at Hogwarts! I've decided to share some ideas about what to do next, for all the fans out there who are missing Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and the whole gang!
Whether you'll be taking up a new hobby to get over the end of the story, or starting a new book, or just catching up on laundry, here is a place to gather and share ideas and thoughts on life with and without Harry Potter. Need to shop for Potter costumes and stuff? Stop by my little shop on Diagon Alley.
NOTE: Some sections of this page may contain information about what happens in Deathly Hallows. Sections that may contain spoilers are near the bottom of the page. If you don't want to know, don't read the sections marked SPOILER ALERT. I don't want to receive any howlers about ruining any surprises. Thanks.

July 31, 2008: The Tales of Beedle the Bard available for pre-order!
I found out today that The Tales of Beedle the Bard is available for pre-order! These Tales were referenced in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and now you can actually buy the collection. The tales have been compared to Aesop's fables and the stories of the Brothers Grimm. Enjoy!
Tell the truth: Did you cry?
Be honest; you're among friends!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was a very intense, emotional story. Author JK Rowling admits that she cried and cried after finishing the book, and that chapter 34 was especially emotional for her. What about you?

What did Daniel Radcliffe do after finishing Deathly Hallows?
an excerpt from an EW interview
What did you do when you finished reading Deathly Hallows?I was in a car at the time. I had my iPod in, and I was listening to Sigur Rós. I don't know if you know them. They're a band who do sort of instrumental music, but it's just amazing. I think they're from Scandinavia somewhere. They've got an album called Takk...I was listening to, and it's very, very appropriate [for the end of Deathly Hallows]. I was listening to it and I remember I was sort of turned away from everybody else in the car, just so I could be in my own little world when I read it. What did I do when I finished? I think I just put the book down and carried on listening to the music. Just looked out of the car window, 'cause I couldn't think of what else to do. I'm still struggling to really take it in. It doesn't leave you in a hurry.
July 26, 2007: Rowling will write more about Harry and friends!
the Epilogue was made vague on purpose
I was so happy to read today that JK Rowling will be giving us more information on Harry and the others! She explained that it was her intention to make the Epilogue rather vague, as though you were viewing the scene through a fog. Without giving anything away here, the information she has long guarded about plots and particulars is now shared generously. She plans to write an encyclopedia on the characters from the books, including what the survivors do in the years after the conclusion of Deathly Hallows, and I can hardly wait! Thank you, Jo! Of course, I expect she'll take a nice long vacation before beginning that project, and she should. She deserves it! Brew your own Butterbeer!
come up with your own perfect brew
Experiment with these ingredients to find just the right brew for you! A nip of butterbeer now and then will help keep you in the Hogwarts mood.Step One: Start with Cream Soda
Step Two: Add some butterscotch flavor
Torani Butterscotch Syrup
Torani Butter Rum Syrup - Italian Syrup 750ml - 25.4oz
Butterscotch Pure Cane Syrup
Stirling Gourmet Butterscotch Coffee Flavoring Syrup
Butter Rum Coffee Flavoring, 1/3 oz.
I have had a hard time finding butterscotch syrup or extract at the grocery store, so I came up with a tasty combination on my own. Use a can of cream soda, and about 1/4 teaspoon each of butter flavoring, vanilla flavoring, and rum flavoring (adjust to your preference). I like my butterbeer cold, so I put it on ice, and YUM!

What should you do after you finish reading Deathly Hallows?
Personally, I didn't really want to read the book so quickly, because I was trying to savor every page. However, I was so excited about what was happening, and looking forward to more action and having my questions answered, I just couldn't put it down, and finished it in just a few days! After being completely immersed in pre-Potter anticipation before July 21, and then buried in the book for hours while I devoured the last installment of the saga, I came up for air and looked around for something else to hold my attention. My daily chores are pretty mundane, so help me out and share some of your post-Potter plans and ambitions.

November 21, 2008. It seems like a very long wait. To help pass the time until then, I plan to re-read HBP. And of course, see Order of the Phoenix again. That way, I'll be completely refreshed on the story leading up to the film.I'll also probably obsess over every little detail that comes out in the press, and drive my family crazy talking about the story, characters, and everything else.
Of course, I'll eat lots of chocolate frogs. Bertie Botts are good too, but I just can't eat those bogey, vomit, and dirt flavors...

What are Harry, Ron, and Hermione doing after Deathly Hallows?
by hmsweaver
SPOILER ALERT * DON'T READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW!In an interview with Meredith Vieira, JK Rowling filled in some of the blanks about what Harry, Ron, and Hermione are doing after the Battle of Hogwarts.
Harry and Ron have revolutionized and cleaned up the Auror Department at the Ministry of Magic, and Harry Potter is now the department head. They have put an end to the corruption in the Ministry, and now enjoy fulfilling, successful careers there.
Hermione, despite having scoffed at the possibility of becoming a lawyer earlier, is rather high up in the Department for Magical Law Enforcement. Her intelligence, combined with the practical experience gained while fighting against the Dark Arts in her youth, are put to good use in her career.
Harry and Ginny are married, and their children are attending Hogwarts. Harry seems to be enjoying the beautiful family life that he never had as a child. Their children are named after people who were important in their lives; James (after Harry's father), Albus Severus (after Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape), and Lily (after Harry's mother).
Teddy Lupin, son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, seems to be almost part of the Potter family, visiting for dinner four times a week. Despite the loss of his parents while just an infant, he has grown into a perfectly normal, happy person. As the kids board the Hogwarts Express, he is seen snogging Victoire Weasley, daughter of Bill and Fleur.
Ron and Hermione are also married, and have two children; Rose and Hugo.
Draco Malfoy is married and has a son, Scorpius. It seems that although he owes his life to Harry, he has not become a great friend. Perhaps the Malfoys changed their dark ways after Voldemort's defeat?
Finally, Jo wanted to emphasize the importance of the fact that Harry's scar no longer bothers him. It is still on his forehead, but it's just a scar. Voldemort will not be returning, and "All is well."
The Language of Harry Potter's World: it's fun to read, and it's fun to say
by hmsweaver
One of the things I like best about JK Rowling's writing throughout the Harry Potter series is the language she uses in creating and describing the wizarding world. From the rather mundane-sounding "Muggle," to the very chewy and descriptive "bludger," to the many fanciful spells and incantations, such as "alohomora," and "levicorpus," the reader is treated to a wonderful variety of textures and sounds. I am grateful to Rowling for these verbal treats.
Reading and speaking words and phrases like "quidditch pitch," "horcrux," "legilimency," "bubotuber pus," "snargaluff," and "Dumbledore," add another dimension to the tales of Harry Potter. These unfamiliar words, while whimsical, also give a feeling of realness to the fictional things they name.
And besides the literary purposes served by these new and unusual words, they are just plain fun! Thanks Jo!

- Wotcher! When HP7 arrived, I sat down and finished it in one sitting, finishing up around 3:30 am. Went to bed, woke up, and read it again, taking a few breaks this time - finished in under two days, but caught a few things I had missed the first read, LOL! This is a fantastic lens - I hadn't heard that JK was writing an encyclopedia, I'm chuffed! You've got some great "after" suggestions on here, though I've read most of them, but I didn't see Fablehaven - HIGHLY recommended! 5 stars & faved!

no pressure on j.k but i hope that encyclopedia comes out soon, i love the magical world and everyday wish to be part of it. Man if only i could sit with j.k in one room with the seven books i would ask her a 1000 questions atleast.
And here's some advice people why not just right every question you've ever wanted to ask j.k maybe if ur lucky and i mean really lucky u can look back at them and ask her.
But this blog is a tribute to j.k and all her work she really thought her story through and the wonderful thing is that she made one of the best endings you could think off all though i wanted to know a little more but the encyclopedia will give me that so thanks j.k ur a real legend.
