Lifehouse

Lifehouse - The great Lifehouse band consists of  singer-guitarist Jason Wade, drummer Rick Woolstenhulme and bassist-singer Bryce Soderberg.

Jason Wade is a gifted songwriter with Lifehouse's first record, 2000's multiplatinum No Name Face, which contains the #1 hit "Hanging by a Moment." Calling that song only 'a hit' is true understatement as "Hanging by a Moment" was the most-played song of 2001.

Stanley Climbfall, the band's Top 10 follow-up, was released in 2002.

2005 saw the release of their third album simply titled Lifehouse which included the undeniable hit #1 multi-format hit "You And Me" and kept the band out on the road touring for over a year.

With the latest album, Who We Are, Lifehouse takes a further step in their evolution. this is an upbeat album full of potential hits sure to please fans and make new ones.

Lifehouse Who We Are

Who We Are is another set of rousing anthems from this reflective trio. On their fourth full-length, the Los Angeles three-piece sets the template for a harder-rocking effort with dynamic opener "Disarray," in which singer/guitarist Jason Wade admits he doesn't know where he's going, but "wouldn't have it any other way."

The band rocks even harder on album highlight "The Joke," a song inspired by a real-life suicide. It's a risk that pays off, although the lyrics almost make the subject seem more defiant than regretful. Throughout the record, Rick Woolstenhulme's drums sound like they're cranked up to 11--not that there's anything wrong with that (Bryce Soderberg holds his own on bass).

In other words, the music isn't shy (or subtle), but Wade's words read more like questions than answers. Granted, closing number "Storm," with Rocco DeLuca on organ, brings things to a gentle close, but most tracks follow in the over-sized footsteps of post-grunge precursors, like Live and Stone Temple Pilots. Then again, as Abigail Van Buren used to say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If Lifehouse ever find what they're looking for, to paraphrase yet another sage, they may as well pack it in. -- Kathleen C. Fennessy

Its amazing how Lifehouse keeps coming out with songs that just seem to hit me right where they need to. I felt something with each and every song on Who We Are. The only song i didnt really enjoy was The Joke and maybe. If i give that a few more listens i will start to enjoy that a bit more.

I cant even pick a song out of here that is my favorite because i enjoy them all particularily: Who We Are, First Time, Storm, Disarray.

I could list the whole album tracklist, but you get the picture. Mr. Wade has a way with not only bringing the songs to life but singing them in such a way that. You cant help feel a part of them and the band as a whole seem to be clicking on all cylinders in every other aspect on this cd. I love me some Lifehouse and as long as they keep bringing out new music. I will be there in line buying it on day one.

I loved "Who We Are" from the first note of the first song the "First Time" -- Derrick Jenkins "Lover of music/anime" (Hampton VA USA)

Lifehouse Lifehouse

For their third album, Lifehouse, with the help of producer John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews), have turned down the amps and left the Creed comparisons behind.

In return, the trio are geared to become the smoothest ride on alternative radio. Singer-songwriter Jason Wade has the perfect voice to pitch a 21st century emo-ballad and he's never prettier than on the earnest "Into the Sun." Even when the group ramps up the guitars, the result is modestly subdued as the angst of "We'll Never Know" is sweetly leavened with lush harmonies. Having opened for the likes of Pearl Jam, the Rolling Stones and Iron Maiden (?!), Lifehouse have now chosen the quieter path.

Fans of their monster hit "Hanging By A Moment" should still find plenty to recognize and relish, but these young men are foregoing any potential head banging for a strong tug at the heart. -- Jaan Uhelszki

I am probably one of the biggest Lifehouse fan's that there is. This album is simply amazing and I love listening to it as much as I can. Jason Wade has exceeded with his voice and actions in this sojourn through a softer melodic path in their career as a group. 'You And Me' and 'Into The Sun' are the hits of this beautiful album. This album is for a bona-fide Lifehouse fan and any fan of romantic moody music. There is songs in this album that are for romantic evenings, wedding dance songs, candlelit dinners as well as just sitting back and relaxing.

This is Lifehouse at their best. This album isn't as good as 'No Name Face' but it sure comes close. My two all time favourite Lifehouse songs are 'Simon' and 'Everything' followed by 'Storm' and 'You And Me'. This album continues the great work of the past albums and continues the evolution of this great group. The video of You And Me is beautiful to watch.

I hope Lifehouse brings out a DVD of many of their songs, it would be fitting for this group of talented young men who are well on their ways to achieving some great accolades and fame. Thankyou Lifehouse for your music that is some of the best I have ever heard as well as inspiring, joyful and retrospective. -- Petar Vodogaz "Commissioner" (Sydney, NSW Australia)

Lifehouse Stanley Climbfall

When you come up with the most-played radio hit of the year, there is no need to wrack your brains for a follow-up. Lifehouse, who earned such a distinction with 2001's highly addictive "Hanging by a Moment," shrewdly stick to the emotional guitar-rock palette of that breakthrough single for most of their second album.

"I wouldn't change a thing," frontman Jason Wade declares on the searing "Spin," and the band follows through on powerful, life-affirming tracks such as "Wash" and "Take Me Away."

Produced by Ron Aniello (Days of the New), mixed by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, U2), and written primarily between tours, this is the kind of ambitious and endearing album that suggests its makers won't settle for anything less than global domination. -- Aidin Vazari

I'm not a die hard Lifehouse fanatic, nor am I Christian (what lead singer/songwriter Jason Wade mostly writes about), but I know good music when I hear it. Yes, it's catchy, but it's so much more than that. The lyrics are very emotional and thought provoking - you'll hear a song five times and analyze it differently each time. The lyrics don't have this hit you over the head obvious theme to them - they can kind of be analyzed however you want. This album is exponentially better than No Name Face both lyrically and musically. Sure, maybe the songs aren't as radio friendly as those on No Name Face, but I think that's a good thing because we get much better quality songs here. Give it a listen - if you like emotional music that makes you think, you will not be disappointed. -- Doc Stew (Schaumburg, IL)

Lifehouse No Name Face

No Name Face is an auspicious debut from a band seemingly made to rule the airwaves. The insinuating melodies that mark Lifehouse's radio-friendly sound are not unlike those of matchbox twenty or Live in their softer moments.

From the first single, "Hanging by a Moment," to the emotive and uplifting "Quasimodo" and the wonderful "Trying" (think Crowded House at their lilting best), Lifehouse are self-possessed and focused.

Young singer-songwriter Jason Wade (the son of two ministers) imbues Lifehouse's vibe with a spiritual quality that's never heavy-handed, delivering the goods with the authority of an experienced troubadour. No Name Face may be a first offering from a young band, but it looks to signal the beginning of an estimable career. -- Katherine Turman

I first heard these guys during an episode of Roswell, during which the song 'Everything' played in the final scene. I remembered seeing the cover of the CD in a record store and went out the next day and bought it.

Unlike most of the people writing reviews here, I had never heard 'Hanging By a Moment' when I bought the album. As you can tell by the five stars, I am incredibly glad I did.

I can't imagine anyone NOT liking this album - honestly, it is a collection of 12 incredibly good songs. In trying to choose my favorites, I find it nearly impossible to mention one or two and slight the others.

Hanging is a great radio track, but, in my opinion, one of the weaker tracks on the disc. Track 2, Sick Cycle Carroussel, is really an amazing song -- the kind that will never be released but is the reason you love an album. The same can be said for The Unknown, track 3, which is wonderful (but one of my least favorites). The quality picks up as we reach track 4- Somebody Else's Song, a good pick for the second song released. It would put similar-sounding track by Creed or Bush to shame. Trying is the fifth song, the softest song on the album and just incredible if you're in the right mood for it. If you like to feel 'moved' by a song, Trying is the one to do it. Only One is the sixth song - another great rock song. Midtempo, and, like all these songs, fully fleshed out. You never feel that the potential of the song was unrealized. They wring everything possible out of each melody.

In the second half of the album, the quality continues. Simon, track 7, is in the same category as Sick Cycle - one of the album's best, but not the kind you'd hear on the radio. I absolutely love this song. Song 8 is a bit harder sounding - if you like Hanging, you should love this song. Song 9, Breathing, is probably the best single song on the album. It fits right in that category between 'great album song' and 'great radio song.' The lyrics are tremendous. Song 10, Quasimodo, has an apt title and it is another 'hard' song - like Hanging. Song 11 I usually forget, Somewhere in Between, and it's an appropriate title. It's between 2 great songs, and is easy to forget, but judged on its own, it is really great. Sadly, it has to be right before Everything, the best last song I have ever heard on an album. It is exactly the way you want to end an album, and the album would be worth the price just for that song.

Fortunately, you get all these other incredible songs at the same time. I can't say enough how great this album is. My musical tastes run the gamut, but I typically like the pop/rock Matchbox 20 / Counting Crows / U2 / etc. but any type of labeling would miss the point. Anyone with any serious love of music will love this album. I don't recommend it to people that will listen through an album one time and then just play their favorite tracks -- it takes a few listens to become hooked on the album. But once you love the album - it's just a great feeling. I've never written a review for amazon before, but i really felt compelled to by this album. Every person that loves music should own it. -- Matt Paproth "mattpaproth" (Edwardsville, IL United States)

Lifehouse Spin

In todays music industry, Lifehouse is a rare breed; a great talented band who is using their voice for more than inane swearing and spouting off.

Instead of feeling like killing yourself after listening to them, you feel like they've actually breathed life into your soul. Good on them for daring to stand out and be different. (Sad isn't it that good, straight-up, music is what stands out in todays world?) -- "chrisgmiddle" (Lethbridge, Alberta)

Lifehouse First Time Lyrics

We're both looking for something
We've been afraid to find
It's easier to be broken
It's easier to hide

Looking at you, holding my breath
For once in my life I'm scared to death
I'm taking a chance letting you inside

I'm feeling alive all over again
As deep as the sky under my skin
Like being in love, she said, for the first time
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm feeling right
where I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

The world that I see inside you
Waiting to come to life
Waking me up to dreaming
Reality in your eyes

Looking at you, holding my breath
For once in my life I'm scared to death

I'm taking a chance letting you inside

I'm feeling alive all over again
As deep as the sky under my skin
Like being in love, she said, for the first time
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm feeling right
where I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

We're crashing
Into the unknown
We're lost in this
But it feels like home

I'm feeling alive all over again
As deep as the sky under my skin
Like being in love, she said, for the first time
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm feeling right
where I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

Like being in love she said for the first time
Like being in love to feel for the first time
