As time progresses, there comes an inevitable realization : everything is connected. In this day and age, the damages humanity has wrecked upon the world makes it all the more clear that every individual action has impact upon all living things. You may feel it is spiritual, physical or philosophical in essence, you may even think it is all at once, but we cannot deny that all life is linked like every point in a spider's web. Life is a great weaver and our actions can affect all of its tapestry. Problems arise when we believe to be disconnected. Whether it is disconnected from our own specie, other species, nature or even ourselves.

With the rise of the internet and other communication technologies, it has become always easier to find human contact and yet, our inability to communicate reaches unthought levels of perfection. It is aberrant that we chose willingly to lack respect, to close our minds or refuse to even try to see things from another perspective. How is it that beside pornography, insults might just be the second most common thing on the internet? Is this natural human behavior?

The well known philosopher Pythagoras once said that "as long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower living beings, he will never know health or peace. For as long as man massacres animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seeds of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love". A peaceful world cannot be if we are to built it on the wanton killing of animals.

In our folly, we have given our extreme character to the earth's natural cycles. Shouldn't we be grateful to the world who gives us shelter? The earth is abundant, but remember that once the farmer had killed his golden eggs laying hen, he was left without prosperity.

After proper observation, aren't all these the symptoms of a single disease? If we destroy our relationships, our world and other living beings, what does it reveal about us? It tells that within us lives a disease, but so does its cure, which is more simple than we could dream. When confronted with a new situation, we shouldn't expect a positive outcome if we cling unto an old behavior. By adopting different codes of conduct, we can create the positive results we desire but do not obtain by holding on to the self-sabotaging habits of the past. We need no blood-spilling revolutions brought by those who, absorbed in their own illusions, consider others as ideas and not persons. What we need is to rebel against our personal demons, our apathy. It is not society or others that we must change to create a better world, but our relationship with ourselves. That is the revolution the LifeWeb Society encourages.

About foxenigma

I'm a photographer, author and infopreneur that hails from the cold land called Quebec. I've been a vegetarian for about five years now and hold the not-yet-popular (but nevertheless very high quality) blog Vegetarian Life. As for photography, I learned mostly trough contact with other photographers such as Mike Herring (Hi Mike!) and Roland de Québec; I've done cultural photojournalism for a while and since I studied in an area of natural breathtaking beauty, I've done a lot of landscape, but I now concentrate mostly on portrait photography.
