Thin Thighs and Tasty Pies?

Alright! This is one of my favorite pies. The combination of warm apples and a crunchy, sweet topping. Normally, we would wouldn't even think of having this pie around for the weekend.

Let's see what we can do to make this guy a little more managable on our diet.

The Original Dutch Apple Pie Ingredients 

Don't get discouraged yet.

1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
4-5 tbsp. water, cold
7 apples, peeled, cored and sliced thin
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 c. sugar
3/4 c. flour
6 tbsp. butter

Original pie 462 calories and 22 grams of fat per serving

Oh my! Quite painful, right? Let's repair him.

Light Dutch Apple Pie 

Lowering your Guild step by step.

Butter- replace with Smart Balance Light Buttery Spread (entire recipe)
-111 calories per serving
-12.7 grams of fat per serving

Replace sugar and brown sugar with Splenda No Calorie (entire recipe)
-81 calories per serving

Lose the top crumbles
-76 calories per serving
-3.9 grams of fat per serving

Grand total
Combining all tricks together:

Splenda throughout
Smart Balance throughout
No crumble

Note: You can also just half the crumble and still lose 38 cal/ 2g of fat per serving, or for the family- just add it to one side!

Will equal 194 calories and 5.4 grams of fat per serving
