hard drives
- owc mercury elite
- I was looking for a backup solution for my Mac Mini and my G4 Powerbook. Initially I was looking for a dedicated machine to do backups but I didn't have any old machines around to put a RAID setup in. I really don't keep computers for that long, but this would have been a good use for it.
- seagate 300gb 7200.9
- I needed two IDE hard drives to fill my OWC Mercury Elite enclosure. Initially I was looking to configure the drives in a RAID 1 configuration so I bought two identical drives. The RAID 1 setup was a failure, but I was still able to use the two drives in a single drive configuration.
car toys
- dension icelink
- So you have your iPod and it works great, except when it comes to listening in your car. Maybe you picked up an FM modulator and that works somewhat well, except in large cities where it is almost impossible to get a clear station.
desktop computers
- apple mac mini intel core solo
- I was lucky enough to pick up one of the new Mac Mini Intel Core Solo machines to replace my G4 Mac Mini. It ships with a 1.5 GHz Intel Core Solo CPU, 512MB PC2-5300 SODIMMs, Seagate 60GB SATA drive, Combo Drive, Wireless, Bluetooth, Digital Audio and the Integrated Intel Graphics that everyone loves.
- apple mac mini
- It's been a year since I purchased my Mac Mini. It was announced at the 2005 Macworld Expo and it was the first Mac targeted at entry-level consumers. At the time I was using a Powerbook G4 and I was looking for a machine to use as a desktop computer.
digital cameras
- canon a400
- I was looking for a Christmas gift for my Mom a couple of years ago and she was in need of a new camera. She had a basic film camera from the 80s, so this thing was huge and didn't necessarily take the best pictures in the world.
- canon sd200
- Digital cameras have been great gadgets for me. I really appreciate instant review and being able to transfer the images to a computer. Previously, using film cameras it was a pain to develop the images which were expensive and at times I would end up developing images I wouldn't even use.
- sony dsc-n1
- So a couple of weeks ago, I decided to buy the Sony Cybershot DSC-N1. It's a feature rich camera with a 8.1 megapixel sensor, Carl Zeiss lens (as most Sony digital cameras use), video recording functionality, and 3.0' inch screen.
digital tvs
- samsung hlr4667w
- I had moved to a new place and figured I would treat myself to a digital TV. In my area there is decent over the air HDTV reception, but I opted to order the HDTV premium channel package from my cable provider Comcast. I looked at LCD, Plasma and DLP sets.
dvrs
- motorola dct6208
- My local cable provider is Comcast and I opted to order the HDTV and DVR options in my setup. I had used a Tivo previously and was quite happy with that but I was looking for something that was capable of recording HDTV. Comcast uses the Motorola DCT6208 for its HDTV and DVR package.
- replaytv 5500
- Several months ago we got a ReplayTV to take care of all our DVR needs. Based upon the suggestions from several ReplayTV users it seems like a good way to go, so we picked up one of the newer 5500 series replays.
headphones
- bass buds
- My set of Sony MDR-EX71SL had stopped working in one ear. The insulation on those seem poor to me. It has a rubbery texture that over time just wore out. I did use them everyday for a few months, but I figured they should have lasted longer.
- sony mdrex71sl
- I carry my iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle with me daily and I was looking for some ear buds to replace the standard white Apple ear buds. Since I carry them around with me daily and use them almost any chance I get, the ear buds take quite a beating and a little more than usual wear and tear.
- sennheiser hd202
- I own a few iPods and a laptop and find myself traveling a lot around California. For everyday use, I normally use a pair of iPod earbuds, which I have to say aren't that great, but I can get by with them or I use a pair of Sony MDR-EX71SL in white.
keyboards and mice
- apple keyboard
- I had ordered my Kensington Studio Mouse online and was search of a keyboard when I purchased my Mac Mini. I had picked up the Mac Mini from a local Apple retail store and the price had just dropped on the Apple Keyboard to $29 so I decided to pick one up.
- kensington studio mouse
- I bought the original Mac Mini as I have mentioned in previous articles the first week it was released. At the time I was using it as a desktop machine and was looking for a keyboard and mouse to match up with the unit.
- logitech lx 501
- I was looking for a wireless keyboard and mouse combo for the Mac Mini I have in my living room connected to the Samsung HL-R4667W. I searched the Internet for suggestions from other users and for the most part most companies did not support Bluetooth solutions for Mac OS X.
mobile phones
- palm treo 650
- My service contract was up with Cingular and I decided to upgrade my Motorola V551 handset. For the most part, I had been happy with Cingular. The wait times for customer service were somewhat long, but overall coverage after they acquired AT&T had been good throughout California.
monitors
- viewsonic va721
- I have been using a Viewsonic VA721 monitor with a Power Macintosh G5 tower for light graphic work and web design/programming. On a typical day, I will work on sites built upon the LAMP architecture (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) and use the G5 for development and testing purposes.
music players
- apple ipod nano 1gb
- This morning Apple quietly released a 1GB iPod Nano for $149, making their latest music player more accessible to the public price wise.
- apple ipod nano
- I bought the iPod Nano the first day it was released to the Apple Store. To my surprise, on its initial launch they seemed to have a decent supply. I did not have to be put in a waiting list like some of the Apple products I had purchased in the past.
- apple ipod shuffle
- The iPod Shuffle was purchased in January after it was released at Macworld. The nice thing about the unit is I can carry it everywhere I go. I have had other iPods in the past and they aren't too big to carry around but it would never be an everyday item.
power
- belkin pureav pf30
- After purchasing gadgets for both home and portable use, protecting my investments became a top priority. Power was always a concern for my computer and my home audio/video equipment as well as any portable devices such as iPods, which I charge on a daily basis.
streaming audio
- roku m1000
- I've always been interested in ways of getting my large music collection off my computer and into a decent component stereo setup. Throughout college it was consisted of running a 20 foot mini jack to RCA's cable from my sound card to the stereo inputs.
usb
- iogear guh284r
- After purchasing the Mac Mini and collecting quite a few USB peripherals, the two USB ports built into the machine wasn't cutting it especially since the keyboard/mouse use one of the ports. I needed a USB hub and I didn't really care for the units that were made to match the Mac Mini.
- belkin usb 2.0 hub
- When I picked up my Mac Mini Intel Core Solo, I handed my G4 Mac Mini to my mom. She has a Palm, a digital camera, a Canon printer, as well as a D-Link Bluetooth adapter to connect to the machine.
web cams
- apple isight
- When iChat AV was released with Mac OS X Tiger, I was assumed by the demos of Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer, but didn't really see how this would become mainstream. Sure a few of my friends have web cams, but the majority of people in my opinion still use standard instant messaging over video messaging.
wireless
- dlink dgl4300
- A couple months back I was looking for a good all around network router, preferably with both wired and wireless capabilities. After some research, I came upon the D-Link DGL-4300. It is touted as a 'Gaming Router', which basically means it has QOS (Quality Of Service).
- netgear wgps606
- I was looking for a wireless solution for my living room. I was in the process of setting up a Netgear WPN824 as my primary router and it did a good job of covering the entire apartment.
- netgear wpn824
- I was interested in setting up a new wireless network in my home. I run a couple of servers out of my home, which run this site as well as a few others.
speakers
- harman kardon soundsticks ii
- Plug and Play speaker system that rocks with any Mac you may own. I can crank up my iTunes or streaming audio and hear quality sounds through the speakers.
