Lighthouse Boxes make Wonderful Gifts

Lighthouse enthusiasts love to decorate their homes with lighthouses. I have been photographing lighthouses and offering them on a variety of gifts over the years. The newest offering is a series of lighthouses on boxes sold through Zazzle. These boxes are sold in several different sizes and are offered in lacquered wood in four different colors. They have a felt lining to protect your treasures. The tops of the boxes have an inlaid tile with my photograph of a lighthouse.

These boxes make wonderful gifts either by themselves or with a special trinket inside. I have one of these boxes in my family room with tile coasters inside. My daughter uses one on her dresser to keep jewelry. Whatever the use, I believe you will find these lovely boxes to be a beautiful reminder of the beautiful lighthouses that dot the coasts and lakes in America.

Maryland Lighthouse Keepsake Boxes

Maryland has three different styles of lighthouses. This one along the Chesapeake Bay is the screw pile type of lighthouse. I photographed it in early evening and was able to get a good shot of the reflection on the water.

The next lighthouse is your more conventional conical shaped lighthouse. This one is found along the Potomac. Piney Point was at one time used as a Presidential weekend retreat.

The third style of lighthouse found in Maryland is the cupola style. This one is found along Chesapeake Bay at Lookout Point.

Outer Banks Lighthouses

The Outer Banks of North Carolina has several beautiful lighthouses. Each one of them is unique.
The first one pictured here is from a photograph I took on Roanoke Island near the entrance to the Outer Banks. This lighthouse was moved to the harbor on Roanoke Island. I was able to photograph it at dusk just as the light was starting to glow.

We took a ferry over to Ocracoke Island in the OuterBanks to capture the photo of this lighthouse.

Currituck lighthouse is found on the northern portion of the Outer Banks.

Cape Hatteras is the most recognized lighthouse in the Outer Banks. It is often called "America's Lighthouse". I photographed this view at dusk from a nearby tower.

Hilton Head lighthouse in South Carolina is one of the newer lighthouses. It was built in the 1960's and has become the icon for the popular tourist destination.

Great Lakes Lighthouses

I used to think of lighthouses as being just along the ocean, but I have found that many lighthouses dot the shores of the Great Lakes.
This lighthouse is found in Door county, Wisconsin along the shores of Lake Michigan.

Very nice lens. One of my personal favorites is the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. I haven't been to the Outer Banks in a number of years, perhaps this summer.

Absolutely gorgeous lighthouse boxes! What a nice gift for a beach house, a great addition to a nautical themed bathroom and/or a special place to hold keepsakes. Nicely done!
