Lighthouses Around the World

This lens is about Lighthouses, both in the United States and elsewhere. Lighthouses are towers or buildings that emit light used as a navigation aid to ships and sailors at sea. I have always had a fascination with lighthouses and have a collection of small ones of my own. This lens is about lighthouses, their history and how they may be used today.

A Little About Lighthouses

Lighthouses are used to mark dangerous coastlines, reefs or shoals, as well as making entries safe in harbors. At one time, Lighthouses were used a great deal but because of cost and maintenance they have been replaced by modern aids to navigation. However, there are still some functioning lighthouses throughout the world.
