What's the deal?
Like most rappers, and hip hop artists, Lil wayne has had run ins with the law. Heck , what self respecting rapper or hip hopper hasn't been to jail at least on a overnight stay?
Well , unfortunately for all of us, Lil Wayne isn't a normal hip hop artist , he's the best. His records outpace Jay Z , 50 Cent, and everyone else for that matter. He's right at the #2 spot in the WORLD for hot atists ,right behind "Lady" GaGa , the boisterous transvestite singer.
Normally, with most artists, you'll have a yearly , or quarterly run in with the law over some small charge, maybe smoking pot , public intoxication or the like. They'll show up to court with a high priced lawyer, who will get the charges down to probation , if that , and everyone will walk off feeling fancy free, and no harm will be done.
Lil wayne on the other hand, was the recipient of a much harsher situation , a weapons charge. Unlike pot and domestic violence (do you hear me Chris Brown?) A weapons charge is much more involved than just beating the tar out of a woman , more political strings are involved, and someone has to be punished because you were carrying a strap.
See , Lil Wayne isn't the cause of the problem , it's about New York Politics more than anything else. NYC weapon laws are very simple - Unless you know the right politician , you're not allowed to own a gun. Lil Wayne had unfortunately not paid off the right judge, politician, or police officer, and was caught with his pants down (or maybe it was his glock down?)
Furthermore , at US Tax payer expense, Wayne has had multiple court appearances, and will be jailed for doing what thousands of people in NYC do every day , carry some means of protection.
However the bigger question is this - does anyone REALLY think that Lil Wayne was planning on shooting someone? When was the last time you heard of someone who was a megastar getting in a shootout with someone else? Tupac wasn't near the star that Lil Wayne is , and wasn just in the wrong place at the right time.
There are MILLIONS of outraged people who are mad at NYC Judges and the overall political landscape that has been in place to put punish people like Lil Wayne who don't have enough clout. One Facebook Group has a petition to shorten his sentence.......They have well over half a million people who want him have a shorter jail time.
So , in the end, we're all left scratching our heads, trying to figure what has come out of this whole thing? I would like to go on the record and say nothing has happened, except for a bunch of upset fans and wasted money. No hotnewhiphop will come out during his jail time, and the potential exists for someone to take his place and fill the vacuum of a hip hop megastar.
