Planting your Lily of the Valley

powered by Youtube

When I was a young girl, my Grandmother had Lily of the Valley growing on the north side of her house. The sweet little white bell shaped flowers were planted in front of large ferns and had a dramatic effect. It is funny how over 50 years later I can still conjure up that picture in my mind of the flowers in May at my Grandmother's house.

White Coral Bells

This little song is sung in a round by many a Brownie, Girl Scout, and Campfire Girl.

White coral bells upon a slender stalk
Lilies-of-the-valley line my garden walk
Oh, don't you wish that you could hear them ring?
That will happen only when the fairies sing

Lily of the Valley for the person without a green thumb

If you do not have a green thumb or a good area in your yard or patio to actually grow Lilies of the Valley, you can still enjoy the plant in your home in the spring by decorating with an artificial plant. Just think...no watering or worrying if it has the proper light. Just sit it on a table and enjoy.

Oh me! This is so beautiful. My mother used to sing White Coral Bells to us and we would sing it as a round as she was ironing. Oh my gosh! What a wonderful memory you have conjured up. I will have to make sure Joan sees this, too! Thank you.
