Friends of Lily Field Christian Community

The Friends of Lily Field Christian Montessori Community is a site designed to support the mission of the Lily Field Christian Montessori Community in Portland, Oregon.  Its objective to provide a very special place for children.  Because of the violent, fast paced, sensationalist society that children face today.  We believe children need a haven to grow in peace.  Lily Field is a community founded by Christians to promote this peaceful environment.

Preschool aged children do not need direct teaching in order to learn, they absorb knowledge from their surroundings just by living. The classroom allows children to move, touch, manipulate and explore.  Lily Field uses this knowledge as a basis to teach reading, mathematics and the natural sciences as well as life skills, all in the foundation of God's love.

Lily Field Christian Montessori Community
Lily Field Christian Montessori Community started in Portland Oregon ten years ago. Still small, the school concentrates on the intellectual, spiritual, physical, and emotional development of the pre-3-year-old child.

The Christian Montessori Fellowship

The Christian Montessori Fellowship
Barbara and Edward Fidellow started a Montessori school in 1972 for their own children.

In 2001, they closed the school to devote their time to helping others with their Christian Montessori programs. This website has their story, and the resources they have developed to help others. They have conferences nationwide, books and other resources for Montessori schools as well as interested homeschoolers.

The Bible in Action

These movies are personal favorites, some have had segments shown in school.

The Prince of Egypt

My family did not own this movie until it was shown in school. My daughter came home and couldn't stop talking about it. While historically loose, if a story can be judged by the lessons it teaches, and the points made, than this movie should be considered.

Joseph - King of Dreams

This story was much more faithful to the biblical story of Joseph than the king of Egypt was to the story of Moses. It is an excellent story that we absolutely had to have after watching the Prince of Egypt.

The Nativity Story

This movie was recommended by our Montessori Guide, it is a faithful retelling of the nativity story.

One Night With the King

This movie was not what I expected. Safe for the whole family, it dramatizes the story of a young girl who at great personal risk remains true to her heritage, and to her God, in a world that wants to crush both.
