A little history and some funny facts about Lima, Ohio. Which is pronounced "Lye-mah" not "Lee-mah".

My Hometown 

I was born and raised in Lima, Ohio. After about 25 years of living here, I decided that it was time for a move and that move brought me to Central Florida. I would like to share a little bit about my hometown with you. I am going to use factual, and some funny facts to introduce you to Lima, Ohio.

Just Where Is Lima? 

Lima, Ohio is located in the northwestern part of Ohio along Interstate 75, approximately 72 miles north of Dayton and 78 miles south-southwest of Toledo. Lima is actually at the intersection of State Route 309 (the original Lincoln Highway) and Interstate 75, which replaced U.S. Route 25, one of the routes of the Dixie Highway.

Some Facts About Lima 

Lima Was Founded In 1831

According to the U.S. Census Bureau the city has a total area of 12.9 square miles of which, 12.8 miles of it is land and .1 square miles of it is water. The Ottawa River flows through the city. Locals sometimes refer to this river as "Hawg Creek".

As of the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, the city had a population of 40,081, consisting of 15,410 households, and 9,569 families residing in the city.

Lost In Middle America..."LIMA" 

A documentary titled Lost in Middle America (and What Happened Next) was made about Lima, Ohio the acronym for its title being "LIMA". It focused on the Rust Belt economic crisis, showing how Lima's blue-collar industries fell, how the crisis was a typical experience of cities across the United States and Lima's subsequent recovery.

Lima's Mascot 

"Beanie", Lima's neighborhood mascot, leads a program designed to help children of all ages learn how to be a good neighbor. Beanie's good neighbor program includes classroom visits, Beanie Wear and a Beanie Buddy program, where young students can meet each other on the World Wide Web and become electronic pen pals.

~ Februcherry and Marchocolate are part of your vocabulary

~ You think LCI is Lima Correctional Institution, not a long distance company

~ You said, "Kalida with a K"



~ You wonder why the TB Hospital closed, and that its haunted/inhabited by the homeless drug dealers

~ You have called Lima "The Bean, Beantown, Bean City" and know that we have a city mascot named "Beanie" that is a giant green Lima Bean with a red hat displaying his name

~ You got hurt sledding at the Reservoir or Farout Park
