A Short Look At Lime T-shirt And Safeguard Types

Fashion styles may change at the whim of the designers, but bright colored clothing is always in, and a lime t-shirt can be just the thing to help make a person stand out from the crowd. These shirts can also be used in situations where safety is a must, and are often seen on an assortment of workers. There are 3 groups of safety standards involved. Let's take a closer look at them.

Safety Classifications

Class 1 group provides the least amount of visibility for the person wearing the garment, where the speed limit is 25MPH, or less, and the employee is required to pay full attention to traffic conditions. In these situations the surrounding background is uncomplicated. There are reflective requirements that involve having a minimum of 155 sq inches of reflective tape, or 6.46 linear feet of 2-inch tape or 9.39 linear feet of 1 3/8-inch tape on products such as safety vest.

This low visibility clothing is recommended for such workers as drivers of delivery trucks, people who retrieve shopping carts, and parking lot attendants. They are also worn by employees who are working on sidewalk or roadside repairs, and maintenance crews, and in warehouses where the worker is involved in controlling equipment traffic.

Class 2 garments have a little tighter requirements and are to be worn when the speed limits are over 25MPH, and where the surrounding area is more complex. These workers would typically be those who must pay at least some attention to other tasks beside watching for oncoming traffic. The reflectivity requirements are a minimum of 201 square inches of reflective tape, or 8.375 linear feet of 2-inch tape or 12.2 linear feet of 1 3/8-inch tape.

Work settings where Class 2 clothing is required can include less hazardous accident site investigations and EMT responders, law enforcement workers, and forestry management. Airport ground crews and baggage handlers, toll gate operators, parking lot attendants, and school crossing guards must wear these. Slow traffic involvement survey crews, railroad workers including equipment operators, and utility workers are also under Class 2 regulations.

Class 3 standards offer the highest level of visibility, and are to be worn in high risk environments where the worker must pay close attention to the tasks they are performing. Speed limits involved are those above 50MPH. These are the situations where the worker needs to be as conspicuous as possible. The reflective stripping must be a minimum of 155 square inches of reflective tape, or 6.46 linear feet of 2-inch tape or 9.39 linear feet of 1 3/8-inch tape.

Workers who are required to wear Class 3 garments might be accident site investigators, EMT personnel, railway workers and construction crews and vehicle operators. Survey crews, flagmen, and utility workers are also required to wear Class 3 rated garments. This class if for the highest risk workers.

Safety clothing, such as safety vest, is used to protect the life of the worker, but it also protects others from becoming involved in risking the life of employees who are on work crews, or directing traffic and crowd control. This is accomplished with the use of lime t-shirt. It also has the added benefit of being easily recognizable to people in the crowd, who may need the assistance of an official to call for emergency personnel.
