Limitations, by Scott Turow
A gripping new courtroom thriller that tests the limits of the law and human understanding
Life has gone well for George Mason. His days as a criminal defence lawyer are long behind him. At 59, he has sat as a judge on the Court of Appeals in Kindle County for nearly a decade. Yet, when a disturbing rape case is brought before him, Judge Mason begins to question the very nature of the law and his role within it.
What is troubling Mason so deeply? Is it his wife's recent diagnosis or the strange and threatening e-mails he has started to receive? Or is there something in the case, centering around an episode of sexual violence committed four years earlier, that has led him to question his fitness to judge?
In Limitations, #1 New York Times bestselling author Scott Turow returns to Kindle County with a gripping story that asks the biggest questions of all. Playfully and with great economy of style, Turow probes the limitations not only of the law but of human understanding itself.

Praise for Scott Turow
And response from some advance readers of Limitations
"Scott Turow not only knows what his readers want, he delivers just about perfectly.- Chicago Tribune
"[Turow has] set new standards for the genre, most notably in the depth and subtlty of his characterizations...The kind of reading pleasure that only the best novelists - genre or otherwise - can provide."
- The New York Times
Turow presents an exceptional, well-written, legal mystery that turned out to be quite the page-turner. Once I started reading it, I just couldn't put it down. Turow's writing is descriptive, yet easy to read. His characters are very believable and accessible, especially George. I'll be looking for more of Turow's work in the future.

If you like legal thrillers, but don't want a doorstopper, this fast-moving short novel may be right for you. The case touches on hot-button issues of sex and race. The rights and wrongs are subtle, and Turow gives all viewpoints a fair say. He successfully combines the legal side of the story with an action thriller. The characters are vivid, from an eccentric fellow judge (bordering on loony, but brilliant) to scarily realistic gangsters. The suspense keeps building until the completely unexpected solution.
