<DETROIT, MICH.> THE FOLLOW-UP SEASON TO 2006 DIDN'T GO AS WELL AS WE HAD HOPED. THE TIGERS JUMPED OUT TO A GREAT LEAD BUT EVENTUALLY FADED. YEAH, YOU CAN BLAME INJURIES AND ALL THAT IF YOU WANT, BUT THEY JUST DIDN'T GET THE JOB DONE.

FLASHBACK TO 2006:

Well, folks, it ended on a dismal night in Missouri. The same state it all started in. The Tigers lost (and I mean that ... they lost ... the Cardinals did not win) on Friday, October 27, 2006. You have to remember though, the dream season started on Monday, April 3, in Kansas City. It's the I-80 connection.

In April '06, we were there, watching the Tigers begin a new era. The Jim Leyland era.

We had high expectations, but we do every spring. We were hopeful that the Tigers FINALLY would turn the corner.

Folks, the Tigers have turned the corner. On Sunday, September 24, the Tigers beat the Royals (in Kansas City) to secure a playoff position in the 2006 Major League Baseball Playoffs!

Then, on, Saturday, October 7, the Tigers beat the vaunted New York Yankees to win the American League Divisional Series.

A week later, on Saturday, October 14, the Tigers finished off a sweep of the Oakland Athletics when Magglio Ordonez slugged a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, sending the Tigers and their fans to the World Series for the first time in 22 seasons.

Eat 'em up, Tigers! Eat 'em up!!!

The Article that Started It all
Steven Losey is a rock 'n' roll writer and Tigers fan. He just bought a '79 'Vette. He wrote about it in an article in The Sporting News. And guess what ... The day the article arrived in my mail, we encountered him on I-69 north of Coldwater, Mich. We were on our way to a baseball week-end. We invited him, but he had to go home ...

MR. DOMBROWSKI - DESIGNER!

We were scared when Mr. Dombrowski traded our best pitcher, Jeff Weaver, for two potential prospects (Carlos Pena and Franklin German) and a player to be named later (Jeremy Bonderman). Well, we have quit questioning any decision he makes. He is the General Manager and he makes the decisions. It's his show. He's doing a great job!!!

Interestingly, he hired Jim Leyland, another sort of maverick who does things his own way, running the team. This is a great partnership in what has become once again a great organization.

COMERICA PARK

You know where the action is ... It's not Hockeytown anymore, baby!

APRIL 2, 2007 (ONE LAST TIME)

THEY KEEP PROMISING A VISIT TO THE OLD STADIUM. IT NEVER HAPPENED. EXCEPT FOR SOME LUCKY PEOPLE WHO PAID A CORRUPT DOORMAN/SECURITY DUDE $20.00 A POP AND SOME LUCKY FLICKR FRIENDS, THE STADIUM STAYED CLOSED.

If you bought seats, they're probably about to arrive, if they didn't already. The Stadium is facing the wrecking ball, perhaps yet in 2007. It's a sad end to a "GREAT BATTLE SHIP."

The facade at Tiger Stadium is looking a little worn. Every time we have taken in a game this summer, we have cruised by the Old Battleship.

Folks, in a couple weeks, the time just might be right to raze the old building and move on. The Ghosts of Tiger Stadium, baby, they're movin' on! It just takes the creation of some tradition and suddenly, suddenly, suddenly ... we can all move on.

JONESY

Todd Jones just may be the best reliever in the American League. He has recovered from some early injuries and now he's almost awesome. He anchors one of the best (if not the best) bullpen in Major League Baseball. Keep it up, TJ.

I will be surprised if you don't make $ on this squid--you know that you and I have probably made maybe $1 collectively on ALL of our squids combined...but you know, this one actually may end up being a cash cow for you. (or a purple cow!) Ok, that's my prediction-you owe me a beverage if I'm right!
