Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site.
This unit of the national parks system is located a few miles off Interstate 65 near Elizabethtown, Kentucky and includes two important sites from Lincoln's early life.
The Birthplace Unit preserves 116 acres of Thomas Lincoln's Sinking Spring Farm. An early 19th century Kentucky cabin is enshrined inside an imposing Memorial Building. This cabin symbolizes the one in which Abraham was born - the actual Lincoln cabin no longer exists.
In addition to the Memorial Building, this area includes a Visitor Center with information, exhibits, a movie and book store, hiking trails, and a picnic area.
When Abraham was about two and a half years old, his family moved to about 10 miles to a farm on Knob Creek, and he lived there until he was almost eight years old. The Boyhood Home Unit preserves this site.

Lincoln Home National Historic Site
In May of 1844, eighteen months after marrying Mary Todd, Abraham Lincoln purchased his first and only house, in Springfield, Illinois. Abraham, Mary, and Robert moved into a one-and-a-half-story cottage, which they eventually expanded into two stories. This is the house where they raised their family for seventeen years.
The house today reflects the way it looked in 1860, and is preserved as part of Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield, Illinois. For more information about that park, click here.
