Who is Linda Jo Martin
Ranked #7,446 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #267,137 overall
Linda Jo Martin is a novelist and content writer...
Hello! I'm Linda Jo Martin, a web content writer focusing on family, health, nature and the internet. I'm also a novelist writing for children and teens. Two of my novels will be published within the next few months. They are River Girl and The Scribe of Irohila.
Ten things you may not know about me
...just for fun...

1. I was born on July 13, 1952.
2. I have an older sister and two younger brothers.
3. I have five children. The first was born in 1973 and the last was born in 1990.
4. I'm a watercolor artist.
5. I've written ten novels and now need to get them edited and published.
6. I listen to an audiobook on my Sansa Fuze every night as I fall asleep.
7. I listen to Coast to Coast AM, Infowars Nightly News, and IF Radio.
8. My favorite song is "Let's Get Together" as sung by the Jefferson Airplane.
9. I keep green Christmas lights on in my bedroom year round.
10. My favorite plant is pennyroyal, because of the scent.
My first book - River Girl
This will be published in Spring 2012
I've written a lot of novels, but this is the first to be published. The publisher is Lifesong Press. The book should be available on Amazon in May 2012. River Girl has a website: River Girl Claire.
River Girl started as a middle grade novel but by the end of the book, Claire, the main character, is a teenager... so lately I've been calling this novel "young adult". It is for anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

What's on my TBR list now
...to be read soon.
A few of my book reviews
Like most writers, I also read a lot...
- Messenger from the Summer of Love
- This book inspires us to remember that love is the most important thing, and that we can live life in a way that brings joy to our souls and thereby uplift the consciousness of others whose lives we touch.Messenger from the Summer of Love is a fun-filled trip through California in early 1967. The au
- To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
- She said it was a love story, but most people think of it as a great classic of Southern life. She never had another book published, yet this one, written early in life, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961--the highest honor for great literature. In 1999 a Library Journal poll chose To Kill A
- Raymon Grace: The Future is Yours - Do Something About It!
- The Future is Yours - Do Something About It! is the title of a book by Raymon Grace, an energy dowser. He combines dowsing with years of spiritual training to clear negative energies and create positive ones, bringing health and well-being into the lives of others.Raymon Grace had a variety of teach
- Mary Summer Rain
- There isn't much on the web about Mary Summer Rain. She apparently loves her privacy and doesn't maintain her own website. Therefore the best way to learn about her is through reading her books. This painting of Mary Summer Rain was done by Carole Bourdo, who was commissioned to do many of the covers
- The Alchemist and the Executioness
- The Alchemist and The Executioness are two novellas by talented authors Paolo Bacigalupi (The Alchemist) and Tobias S. Buckell (The Executioness), available on audiobook via Audible.com.
- Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
- A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce has an unusual format. It isn't really "train of thought" writing, though it seems close. Technically the style is called "free indirect speech". It is written in third-person so cannot be "train of thought" as that would simply report the point of view of the character experiencing events.
- Room - by Emma Donoghue
- Room is a wonderful and unique novel narrated by a five-year-old boy whose entire young life has been spent in a small 11' square room. His mother, imprisoned before his birth, is desperate to get out. After seven years of trying she turns to her son for help with a daring escape plan.
- Books for Authors
- Books for writing inspiration! By reading these you'll find the power to go on, motivation to meet your goals, ideas for streamlining your writing process, suggestions for bringing your characters to life, exercises to improve your descriptive skills, and books that are just plain fun to read.
- The Trumpeter of Krakow
- The Trumpeter of Krakow by Eric Philbrook Kelly is a significant historical novel focusing on fifteenth-century Poland. The non-fictional part of this book is in the first chapter, wherein the story of a thirteenth-century trumpeter is told. The rest of the book is pure fiction, even, sadly, the Great Tarnov Crystal.
- Moon Over Manifest
- I didn't actually "read" Moon Over Manifest - I listened to it thanks to an Audible.Com audiobook download... but I raced through it because this book is big on personality, flavored with details, and absolutely intriguing from the very start.
- Get High Now -- Without Drugs
- Yes! You can get high on LIFE without drugs. There are dozens of things you can do to alter consciousness - for relaxation, energization, inspiration, and FUN.
- Avatars - A Book Series
- Tui Sutherland, author of the Avatars book series, is an imaginative, prolific and talented author worthy of note. In this fantasy end-of-the-world book series she creates a world in which magical powers unite the only teenagers left in a post-apocalyptic world. They are the avatars - the survivors, and their story is breathtaking and memorable. You will not want the Avatars book series to end!
- Time Management for Unmanageable People
- Time Management for Unmanageable People is an amazing book, and not at all like what I expected. I guess what I thought I'd be reading is a collection of stringent ideas on what I should be doing to control and manage my time. But instead I learned about time management concepts - and while that might seem academic - this book puts these ideas into the friendliest of formats so the material is highly readable and easy to comprehend.
- Siddhartha
- Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, is a novel of spiritual striving set in ancient India. In the novel, Siddhartha, a young man living at the time of Buddha, is drawn to the spiritual lifestyle. To his father's dismay, he chooses to become a Samana - a traveling ascetic beggar with spiritual aspirations.
- Crispin - The Cross of Lead
- Crispin is a bright, healthy thirteen year old boy living in a 14th century English village during the opening pages of his book. Unfortunately, his mother just died and he is soon accused of a crime he didn't commit. To make matters worse, his house is burned down, the priest he trusts isn't there to help him, and he must flee into the forest for safety.
- Tribal Bigfoot
- Tribal Bigfoot contains fascinating Bigfoot encounter stories written by David Paulides in his thorough investigative style. Tribal Bigfoot also features the amazing Bigfoot sketchings of forensic artist, Harvey Pratt, originally seen in Paulides' first book, The Hoopa Project.
- Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence
- Is Bigfoot real? Dr. Grover Krantz, a professor of anthropology at Washington State University examined the evidence starting in 1963. This book was originally published in 1992 by Johnson Books, Boulder, Colorado, with the title, Big Footprints: A Scientific Inquiry Into the Reality of Sasquatch. It was revised and reprinted in 1999 and 2008 by Hancock House Publishers in British Columbia, Canada.
Ten writing tips for fiction writers
...just a few ideas for other writers.
1. Write from the heart.
2. When you write something give it all your enthusiasm and attention.
3. Make writing a daily routine.
4. Get to know your characters nearly as well as you know yourself.
5. Put yourself into the scene and write about what you see there.
6. Write down all your inspirations in a writers notebook.
7. Write for the art of it - not for the expectation of sales.
8. Believe in yourself and your writing talent, and realize that nobody else needs to believe in you the way you do.
9. Learn from other writers.
10. Don't ask others for advice on your manuscript until you're done with the third revision.
Any comments?
...I'll welcome your opinions.
I started this page intending to list my published novels... but they're not published yet. Hopefully soon I can add something more impressive to this SquidWho!
