Meet Lindsey Vonn, one of the most successful ski racers on the US Ski Team and a key member of Team USA at the 2010 Olympics. Find photos, video, and news on Lindsey's career.
3rd Straight Overall World Cup Title!
Standing atop the mountain, Lindsey Vonn already was the best skier in the world for the third year in a row.
She didn't even have to make her final run, but she raced anyway and won Friday's super-G in Garmisch, Germany to become the most accomplished ski racer (men or women) the United States has ever had.
Vonn won her third straight overall World Cup title when her best friend and rival and Maria Riesch was bumped out of the top two in the race earlier in the day. Vonn then bumped everyone else down another spot, winning the 33rd World Cup race of her career to put the cherry on top of what was already a wildly successful day.
"I gave it all I had. I have nothing more," Vonn said. "I am the most successful American ever and I am very, very happy."

Going for the Gold in Vancouver
Lindsey Vonn has a string of firsts under her belt, making her a stand-out competitor in the upcoming 2010 Vancouver Games. She's one of the most winning racers in US history, and has won many titles that no other woman can claim. Lindsey has more World Cup wins than any other American woman, and is the only American woman to win 2 overall World Cup Titles. As a youth, she won Italy's prestigious Trofeo Topolino event for ages 11 through 15, making her the only American female to do so. She also won Junior Worlds medals as well as US titles as a teen. And she's only 3rd woman to ever win both the super-G and the downhill at one World Cup event. While many skiers choose one specialty such as downhill or slalom, Lindsey races all 5 events, making her one of the few who does so. Vonn has been skiing since she was only 2 years old, learning moves on a 300-foot run at Buck Hill in Minnesota where she grew up. The runs consisted of a bump and a tow rope, but she took to it quickly. When she was 10, she met her skiing idol, Picabo Street, in Minnesota. The meeting was an inspiration to her, and shortly after that Vonn's father packed the family, which included 4 younger siblings, and they moved to Vail, Colorado, so it would be easier for her to train properly at the world-class ski resort.
Vonn's season in 2009 started out with a win on the slalom in Finland, the first time she'd taken the podium in a World Cup slalom event. She placed in 3 other races, and won one more time before winning the downhill at Lake Louise for the 5th time in 5 years. These were before her double win at the World Cup event that made her the 3rd woman to win 2 events at one World Cup. Her first World Cup competition was back in 2000 in Park City, Utah.
During her training in 2009, she suffered a knee injury and she also suffered a cut to her thumb in February, so she missed some events like the Aspen Winternational and the Worlds GS. But then she went on to win the World Cup Super G and Downhill and the World Cup overall to become the most successful woman skier in United States' history.
On January 23rd, 2010, Lindsey won her 30th World Cup event and her 8th of this season at the downhill at Cortina d'Ampezzo, making her undefeated in the downhill event this season. This is her 5th consecutive victory in a speed event, tying her with her idol Picabo Street, who won 5 consecutive races during her 1994/95 season.
