Line dancing will never loose its stigma and thats a real shame.
Dance crazes come and go but line dancing has stood the test of time. Not only that it has truly evolved into something even the youngesters love to do. You can have three generations all dancing together at the same time on the dance floor side by side. It is a fantastic way of meeting new friends from all around the world and keeping fit.
Unfortunately it has got this stigma where people believe that you wear cowboy hats and western boots and shout yeah haaa at the top of your voice. Well they could not be further from the truth if they tried.
The truth is that there is a form of line dancing where people dress in westen outfits but this is Country and Western Line Dancing. Mainly country music is played at these events.
However in the Modern line dancing, dancers dance to all music including Pop, Latin, Irish, R&B in fact anything in the charts. The style of dancing is based on Ballroom and Latin Dance. so if you dont have a partner to dance with it is a great way to learn ballroom and Latin.
Over the last 13 years I have watched line dancing change and evolve with the times.
At http://www.LinedanceKrazy.co.uk we dance Modern Line and in the last few years we have seen the birth of NEW line. New liners dance to anything.... pop, rap, funk absolutely anything and the dances are more funky and contain not only the ballroom and Latin moves but styling from street dance and even hip hop amongst other styles of dance.
Now if you were to watch a pop group dance side by side all doing the same routine then that is a "line dance". In fact it is more similar to Line 'dance than you could imagine.
Now I know I am fighting a loosing battle at changing peoples image of Line Dancing, because every time I open new classes with the help of our Live 2 Dance Instructors, we all get the same comments fom our new dancers. They tell us that when they tell their friends that they are going line dancing they all have visions of the country and western dancers and can not comprehend anything but Country and Western.
When we arrange demonstrations for Schools or clubs they are amazed and comment on how different the styles are to what they imagined.
So to help promote Line Dancing in its true light I have added a few videos to my web site at http://www.live2dance.co.uk and to this lens. So if you still believe that all line dancers are equall then take a look at the videos below.
Prepare to change your views.
