Lingerie Exposure Yesterday and Today
Have you considered the lingerie exposure of long ago yesterdays to that of today? There have been so many changes in designs and styles down through the ages. From wantonly exposing breasts in abandoned decadence, to binding them so tightly as to cut off circulation and breath while breaking ribs. Lingerie exposure has undergone some major changes down through the ages. Keep in mind that many styles of lingerie, along the way, being adorned with anything from whalebones to bells, ribbons, detailed embroidery and luxurious lace, all in the name of feminine beauty and style.
From the ancients of Crete with their tightly bound corsets pushing the breasts up and out for everyone to admire, to times medieval when breasts were flattened and concealed. Onto the Renaissance, which produced the perfect hourglass figures with its tight, restrictive corsets on down through the centuries, bringing forth the push up bra around the end of the 18th century. At this time, doctors began to speak out about the health hazards of such restricting apparel. These were often made of silk, satin and damask fabrics, and were accented with embroidery, ribbons and lace.
With the 19th century approaching, corsets started to fade into the distant past as they become less restrictive and smaller in size, which aided in being able to breathe while allowing a better range of movement. However, crinolines and bustles were common along with camisoles, knickers and waist slips, which were very heavy and bulky. This era also produced the first stockings that held in place with the use of garters and suspenders. However, during WWI many women found themselves taking over more positions in the labor force, and this lead to underclothes that were lighter in weight while giving proper support in brassieres.
Yet again in the 1920s, fashions featured a slim boyish appearance, and bodice, bloomers and chemise provided a new trendy look of feminine comfort in various pastels, as corsets left the female lingerie scene. The 1930s brought back a full figure in fashion, beginning the circle again, with the girdle becoming a favorite lingerie accessory. However, panties began to become smaller and smaller eventually leading to designs of bikini briefs.
Lingerie has developed into something that most women enjoy wearing, as they are not restricted in movement or breathing, and can be free to express themselves and be comfortable no matter what they are doing. Pantyhose no longer require garters as well as having a choice to use extra padding or not to enhance their appearance and comfort.
