Link Building Ideas And Tips

If you have a website and have done any research about search engine optimisation you will know how important it is to have incoming links into your website. Links pointing towards your domain count somewhat as a "vote", meaning you have something so worthwhile on your site that someone else is willing to link to you. So here in lie the question, how can you get more links to your website?

Which Type Of Links Should You Be Looking For?

Well this is the million dollar question. What type of incoming links should you be striving for? Well lets look at a few options.

Reciprocal Linking: This type of linking is when you link to a website and they link back to you. Kind of like you scratch my back and I scratch yours. This is a pretty good way of gaining links to your site. However, it can prove a few problems. The main issue being that they link will not carry as much weight as if it was a one way link. this means that the "vote" is not as strong as it would be if they linked straight to your website without you having to link back.

One Way Links: Now these are the links you should be trying to get! One way linking is the best thing you can do for your website. A powerful vote that lets search engines know that you are a website worthy of a decent ranking. Might sound simple enough, but it can be a very tricky exercise. You see, you need to be smart about it. You need to do something on your website that makes other people WANT to link to you.

One Way Linking Ideas

So we have said that the best links to get, the ones that will bring you the most reward, are one way links. Easier said than done in most cases. I would like to share a few proven methods that I like to use to help me gain one way links to my websites.

Use Article Directories.
Article directories are a great way to gain free, one way links your website. All you need to do is write a relevant article relating to your industry and post it. It usually takes a few days for the article to get accepted, but then you have a free link to your website. I would recommend using EZine Articles.

Write Content Worthy Of Links.
Plain and simple! If you have great content on your website/blog, people will link to it. They might recommend it to a friend, write a review of it or just link to it from somewhere on their site.

Use Free Directories
There are thousands and thousands of directories all over the internet that will allow you to post a link along with a small description of your website on them. Please note: There are some directories that will try and make you pay for a link back to your website. There is no need to pay for this as there are tons of directories that you can get these links for free!

Use Forums
Do a little research: type in "YOUR INDUSTRY + FORUM" into Google (obviously replacing YOUR INDUSTRY with, er, your industry) and you will see a list of forums that are relevant to your business. Check out a few of them and look for ones that allow you to place a link in your signature. Then register and start answering questions. Every time you post you will gain a valuable, one way link to your website.

Take Advantage Of Social Bookmarking
Take full advantage of the power of social bookmarking. Social bookmarking allows you to gain instant backlinks to your website. Take a look at digg.com, stumbleupon.com and reddit.com.
