• Whenever possible, cultivate links with sites that have similar information or topics as yours. The search engines will rank you higher !
• Contact other webmasters. Tell them why your site would be valuable to them and include a link. The results of this effort may gain you a great many non reciprocal links, giving your site more value
• Write reviews of other sites, especially of those that are relevent to you. Email the webmasters of those sites and let them know. They may just want to post those testimonials with a link to you

• Don't become a "link farm" That is a page or site that crams as many links as possible on every page. Search engines are wise to this ploy and doing that will hurt how you are rank. Selective linking will help you, but there is a line where it crosses over into the negative.

• Make sure that the site you are linking to has a connection on it's home page to it's link page. It is unlikely if anyone will find your link if no connection exists. Likewise, make sure that your home page has a connection to your links page!
• Avoid sites that have more than 25-50 links per page. You will be hard in the crowd. Plus that page may now be considered an FFA site and that will not help you at all
• Make sure that the site's links are catagorized. Careless linking will not help you at all. These types of sites could be considered link farms. Make sure that your site has a wasy to catagorize links.
• Aim for sites with higher PR than you...They will pull your ranking higher as well....
