I'm glad to help others learn Linux. It's better than Windows in every way. I'm here to help others learn how easy and useful Linux is. And best of all, Linux is FREE, and so is most of the software for it as well (it's mostly all open source).

Duel of the Operating Systems. Linux vs Windows

Which Operating System (Linux or Windows) is your favorite?

I decided to add this Duel module to my lens to let the viewers of this lens vote on their favorite Operating System and state their opinions/facts to explain why the OS you chose is your favorite. If you want to battle it out and state your opinions/facts about any Windows or Linux based Operating System, this is the place to do it! I'm looking forward to some interesting and educated responses to this. If you plan on creating a flame war or insulting/offending anyone, don't do it here. You're free to state your opinion in any way that you please, as long as it's clean and not potentially offending to anyone in particular. Enjoy!

Also, please don't reply with comments about Mac OSX. For one, Mac OS is a unix based operating system which has "adopted" (to put it lightly) a Unix based OS (FreeBSD) and made it a bloated, yet very easy to use Unix based Operating System which is now called Mac OS. Therefore, in my eyes, Mac OS is really just another Unix based distro like FreeBSD or Linux and falls under the same category (even though it's inferior to the original Operating Systems it was derived from and it's not free like most Unix/FreeBSD/Linux Operating Systems. Neither is the software). Therefore, if you want to vote for Mac OS, just vote for "Linux/Unix/FreeBSD".

If possible, please post a good response explaining what you do/don't like about each OS. This is mainly for fun, but it should also bring up some interesting points and also help to clarify some of the common misconceptions, and overcome some of the Rumors, False Information, and ultimately help myself and others alike get a better idea of what keeps people from using Linux instead of Windows or Mac OS. Hopefully, this fun Duel will be fun and educational at the same time. I'm also hoping to get some good honest opinions and feedback about this topic for another lens I'm planning to create soon.

Thanks for your time and participation! It's greatly appreciated!

ximifx says:

I started using linux when the dinosaurs and floppy disks dominated the earth and never stopped since then.
With linux you are in total control of your pc.

jtrag says:

You definitely have to try Ubuntu 11.04. WOW! It's so friggin fast you wouldn't even know it's the same OS.

I don't use the new window manager. Before I type in my password and login I choose classic Ubuntu so it uses the "classic" (Older, Original Gnome that we're all used to). It's the best Ubuntu EVER relesed yet. For me, it's really, really close between OpenSUSE 11.4 and Ubuntu 11.04. Nah, I still like OpenSUSE better no matter what. It's more of a "Real Linux" than Ubuntu is. Ubuntu reminds me of Mac OS (Especially now) because it's made for the average, everyday moron. LOL (No Offense Anyone)

Google has become for many the pre-eminent Web search engine. In Feb. 1999 it moved from Alpha test version to Beta and officially launched Sept. 21, 1999. Since that time it has made its mark with its relevance ranking based on link analysis, cached pages, and aggressive growth. Since its beta release, it has had phrase searching and the - for NOT, but it did not add an OR operation until Oct. 2000. In Dec. 2000, it added title searching. In June 2000 it announced a database of over 560 million pages, which grew to over 600 million by the end of 2000 and then 1.5 billion in Dec. 2001. The 2+ billion reported on their home page as of April 2002 includes indexed pages, unindexed URLs, and other file formats. By Nov. 2002, they moved their claim up to 3 billion, and in Feb. 2004 it went to 4 billion. While no official claim is given, 20+ billion is once current estimate.
